I just get the feeling, and I appreciate this is a generalisation, that Christians don't respect other peoples right not to believe.

Thanks to everyone so far. I've found some of the answers extremely thought provoking. I wanted to say this so people knew they weren't wasting their time or that it was a loaded question.
Seriously, absolutely excellent, I could imagine having a superb debate with some of you.

In general, Christians are people just like other people, and can be just as judgmental and narrow minded as anyone else can.
I believe that Jesus respects each individuals freewill choice, and as such, his disciples (followers) should do likewise.
It is unfortunate that some Christians present an obstacle to others coming to a personal relationship with Jesus, and do more harm to unbelievers, well intended or not.

I respect your right not to believe or to believe something different if you choose. If you were my friend we would discuss it and debate it and enjoy the intellectually and thought provoking discussions or we would just never talk about it and enjoy each others company. I am a Bible "fundie" as people like to say, but I don't go around trying to convert people and don't know any Christians that do. If you come to me and ask me questions, I will be ready for an answer, but you are to seek God! We aren't supposed to hunt you down. The only time I think I may tell someone about Jesus when they don't want to hear it is when someone comes into my youth Sunday School class because they spent the night with a friend, not because they want to be there. But I can't not teach my class because one person happened to show up. They don't have to participate or even pay attention and are free to enter the discussion with thought provoking questions about Christianity (which has happened many times).

As a Christian, I think that you can believe whatever you want to believe about anything. We all have our own thoughts and opinions on things of the world and we are all entitled to those as individuals. I work with a lady who is an Atheist, she's a nice lady, but she makes digs at Christianity whenever she can. She doesn't make any comments about Hindus or Buddhists or Wiccans or Jews or any other religion. Just Christianity. I just smile and don't say anything. I've always wondered why.

Of course. I am not God. I have no control over people, nor do I want to. People can believe or not believe what they want. I honestly find some of the atheists on here to be intelligent and respectful people. And I respect their views. That doesn't mean I can't have an opposing personal opinion though, or that I don't deserve respect as well.

I am a Christian and I repect peoples rights to believe whatever they want. These are my personal beliefs they dont have to be everyones. Jesus surrounded himself with non believers because he wanted to let them know his love, not his judgement. God never intended the church to be so divided with different religions and bias. Any Christian you meet that feels otherwise isnt setting a good example of Gods true love and the meaning of Chirstianity. Are you a Atheist or an Agnostic? That might also be the question.

No not the ones I know. And they preach about free will. In order to get to the truth of the situation just look up the word 'Missonary' and see what their job is and you will probably realize that religion tends to want spread. In a way religions won't often admit to not respecting other ideas. they believe they are right despite the lack of evidence. and will talk to you about it no matter what rational argument. don't argue with them you give them more respect than they deserve.

yes... if ur a conservative christian. But in lik the strong strong christian we of course don't respect the fact that other people are athiests. Also almost every religion dosen't respect athiesm. Hinduism, islam, and jewish. But out of all the religions christians are, suprisingly, the most respectful because jesus says to love. if ur an athiest in India or in an islamic country and u openly say this u may hav a chnce to be killed.

Well in all fundamentals, Christians believe Atheists are wrong just as much as Atheists believe Christians are wrong.
That's the beauty of the American Constitution granting us freedom of religion. People can't force others to believe anything.

I respect them... I don't agree with them, but I do respect their beliefs... The Christians that don't respect them probably aren't very good Christians, because we're supposed to be kind to everyone, even others with different beliefs.
I appreciate that you pointed out that your statemtent was a generalization, too. And now it's my turn to generalize: Many atheists don't respect Christians. Sorry.

I think we all have a right to believe or not to believe.
That is our choice to make.
If there is a loving God as Christians say and I believed there was for so long, Then why is there war, so much murder, sickness and pain in the world when God is supposed to be able to stop it? I have a right to believe this.
