I can't say which group of people I do this with, but they provide an important service in our Community and work on Thanksgiving/Christmas, 24/7. Every year, I either bake or buy Pumpkin pies and whipped topping and drop off on Thanksgiving. I leave one of my business cards just for identity purposes. Others do this too. Some of these individuals know me by sight as they do the others that are donating, otherwise a person can't do this for safety reasons.

In France, firefighters (pompiers) sell their calendar once a year. It features some snapshots of firetrucks, smoke and flames!? As you can appreciate, it's quite reassuring to hang it in your kitchen, not to mention the added style .... (((((smiles))))

The pompiers also go from door to door to collect money.
So if people want to show their appreciation they can give them money and / or buy their calendar.

Have a nice night,

Kisses

If someone has risked their life to save you or someone you care about, you could send them a thank you card, or a plate of brownies, etc. or thank them by phone. My mother-in-law made up a large batch of dried apple pies for the police department for helping in her time of need and they really appreciated her appreciation.

Join a volunteer organization like the local volunteer fire department that is what I did. I also sent in a check for 500 dollars after they responded to my house on fire.

Eye contact and a silent nod of the head in their direction. They know what I mean.
