ROTC only produces SWOs and Aviators. those are you only options unless you are found NPQd for SWO.. and that's usually not too easy to flunk.

you would only be allowed to redesignate out of SWO after a certain amount of time in, or if you fail to get your Quals done in the time frame alloted.. but in that case, you will most likely be politely asked to turn in the uniform.

Well the best job in the Navy is COMMAND.

I knew a Navy Officer who went on to command the USS Nimitz for his next assignment. I'm told that that is the single best job in the Navy... and I believe it. Having command of your own ship... think about it.

I don't think the Navy has a "civil enginer office" option.

That being said, don't let it get in your way... your degree and what you do in the Navy don't have to be linked. I know a USAF Reserve Pilot who was a MUSIC major in college for instance.

So by all means get yourself a civil enginering degree... and then go out and get a command.

In any service, the 'best job' is the assignment you just left.

That said, your best bet for answers is the cadre at Auburn. they will have a line -- and opinions. Your job is to make the best of your studies, graduate, and take the assignment given.

You got the Scholarship? Great! After you graduate, you get ot pay it back!

As for a C.E. degree: first, learn to spell 'engineering' correctly.

If you want to pursue civil engineering, I would suggest a posting to the Naval Construction Battalions (SeaBees).

You will not get sea duty, but you will be working in your field.
