Of course they can get sick. They are telling people to stay indoors, so why would it be any different for animals. They have lungs too, you know.

I would go ahead and bring them inside except for potty breaks. No one should be around all that smoke this includes pets. IF this will not work I would see if a family or friend could look after them for a while. The smoke can cause carbon monoxide poisioning in dogs just as in can in humans. Check to see if there is an air quality alert in your area, they usually recommend to bring pets indoors, also with the heat and the heat of the fire along with the smoke it would be best and healthier for them.

I have always said some dogs are out side dogs. They need shelter and a warm dog house. Every time I said this I get hammered like I am an animal abuser. We live in the country and most of the dogs are out side dogs. I don't think a coon hound would make a good house dog. We have three small dogs that are house dogs but big dogs seem to be happier outside..

I would think that all the smoke and ash in the air would not be good for their lungs. You should bring them in. I don't think it will be safe. You may want to keep them in after the fires are out and once the smoke starts to clear.

Yes, the air quality is very poor now. Not only for dogs but also for humans. Bring them inside.

Well, not to be a smartass, but unless you've got a great filter on your AC the air inside your home won't be much better.
Best rule of thumb, if you're uncomfortable outside, eyes stinging, throat burning, so are they, they have the exact same lung structure you do.

Would YOU live outside and breathe the air? If the answer is "No" then bring the dogs inside.
Also, if any air quality warnings have been issued, then bring the dogs inside.

Yes they can get sick from the air. They can develope upper respitory problem just like people do. Plus dogs have a great fear of fire and smoke. They will tend to bark constantly by smelling it.
Get the dog inside for their health and safety.

I live in Orange County and we have the fires going on here too. I would definitely bring in your dogs. My dog, Betty, is sitting on the couch right now. Lets pray that the fires are controlled soon. Good luck and take care!

For extra safety I would bring them inside. You might not be extremely close to the fires but smoke travels a long way. Take care!

The smoke and ash could be hurting their eyes and lungs. So yes, I would bring them in and just let them out to go to the bathroom.
