He died with his teeth gritted, eyes open and diarrea symptons (there was a puddle of it next to his anus). Previous ones included passiveness, he basically avoided to look at me and when he did, God, I wish he hadn't because he had the sadest, most pleading look... And then he looked so thin when I had just fed him a couple hours ago. He remained sitting still with his head down, almost as though he were sleeping standing. He rejected food, turning his head away whenever I tried to give it to him.
He wasn't old, about 10 months of age. He was most of the time in the garden, so I'm aiming towards poisoning because anyone could have access to it if they tried hard enough; he was home alone while I was at work but my neighbours had never let me down before yesterday.
I did try to call my vet but she was out of town and my only choice was to drive 12 hours to the next one, which I couldn't at the time. The next morning he was dead.
Any ideas, please, I'd appreciate it a lot..

Sorry for your loss.

It could have been many things including antifreeze, snail bait, rodent bait, etc. It may have been an obstruction.

If you have other pets or small children, you may want to take the body to the vet and try and find out the cause. You may want to know anyway for the future.

Unfortunately, it is no longer safe to leave dogs out in the yard in many places. More details on parvo.

It also sounds like parvo to me, but then again since you said your dog was left alone in your garden; it's possible that he ate something poisonous to him (Mushrooms are toxic to dogs). Were there any chemicals left out where he could get into...i.e. antifreeze or other gardening pesticides?

The only way to find out for sure how your dog died would be to take him in to the vet to determine the cause of death.

A friend of mine had bought a puppy from a BYB and they told him the puppy was vaccinated. However his pitbull puppy had gotten loose and animal control picked up the puppy after he had been out on the streets for nearly a week. After he got him back the puppy was showing signs of sickness as you described above, refusing to eat/drink, hiding behind things...he hadn't been like that for more than two days before he passed away (he also died with his eyes open, and deficating on himself. The vet ruled he died from Parvo.

To guess at a question like this is difficult as there are many signs of many different problems , parvo , bloat , or may heat stroke or possibly Heart failure a seizure of some kind?.How well looked after was the puppy did he have a good supply of clean water refreshed regularly, did he have his jabs , was he wormed by veterinary wormer .There is worm called heart worm that will kill your dog unless treated correctly.Personally i would have driven the mileage if my dog was in this state. If the dog was a child you would have been done for cruelty .

All depends on how the attack happened, and why have you allowed your dog outside the fence knowing that their are dogs down the road that attack and seriously injure. You are also to blame as your dog is your responsibility, a fence is there to keep your pet in and others out. The responsibility lies with both parties as you are both liable for letting your dogs roam in the street without a leash. I really feel for you on the loss of your pet, but hopefully now you know why there are bounderies and fences.

Could it be parvo? If that diarrhea was bloody, chances are pretty good that it was. Parvo literally causes the dog's intestines to liquify and is fatal if not treated.

Head hanging, drooling, rejecting food sound like classic signs of bloat to me. The stomach twists on its axis, nothing can get in and/or out. Gangrene often sets in, excruciating way to die, no wonder his teeth were gritted.
These symptoms should always be considered a veterinary 911.
