...and, according to Christianity, anyone who follows Jesus goes to heaven, where do Conservatives and Fundamentalists go? What happens to them since they aren't "Christ-Like?"

His philosophy, based in compassion, equality, inclusion, forgiveness, tolerance, peace and - most importantly - love, is 100% Liberal.

Webster's dictionary defines a Liberal as one who is open minded, not
strict in the observance of orthodox, traditional or established forms or
ways. Jesus was a pluralist Liberal who taught that one need not conform to strict and orthodox views of God, religion, and life. He rejected greed, violence, the glorification of power, the amassing of wealth without social balance, and the personal judging of others, their lifestyles and beliefs.

In today's world Jesus would be attending college studying Astronomy and the Big Bang theory, also taking classes and reading the "God Delusion" and "The selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins. Drinking and partying and hooked on ESPN. I think he would like the Red sox on the World series.
Because we would all be too smart to listen to his fairy tales.

HA HA HA. That is what liberals espouse when they do things like use the fires burning in CA as a way to take a shot at the president and the Iraq war instead of actually thinking about the people and not the politics?
Conservatives believe in all those things, except they dont think the gvt should be forcing them to engage in those qualities. Jesus did not say we should force everyone thru the gvt to be this way. Conservatives think it should be thru private charities and organizations that we take care of our fellow citizens. Gvt forcing you to be good isnt what Jesus taught.

Christ was liberal with His money... Today's liberals are generous with other peoples money (they reach into your pocket to fix a problem).
A Conservative believes too many people rely on Uncle Sam for their "help" and need to learn to stand on their own feet if they have them. They see a problem and try to fix it... not always throwing money at it.
True Christians are those who realize they are sinners without hope of salvation on their own. They choose to believe Jesus is who he claimed to be and what the bible says about Him. They ask Jesus Christ to forgive them of their sins and accept Him as their Savior and Lord. This means that He is now in the drivers seat.
As a Christian you will be lead by the Holy Spirit which is your guide through this life to help you make correct decisions. Whether you give your money, talents and time to a particular cause or group is between you and Him.. "You will know them by their works". A true follower will act out of compassion for others and probably won't be so worried about things being out of their control... leaving that up to God (in their prayers). John 3:16 +++

Of course they're Christ-like. Because the world defines them as conservative that means they are? Nooo. Now-a-day "liberals" are usually arrogant people with the mindset that they make their own choice on everything, without realizing it affects other people. It's a selfish excuse to get away with injustice. Jesus was a liberal, those who follow are liberals. God bless!

Obsidian: The Jesus presented in the Bible was not only liberal, but radical. He opposed the rule of law (examples: when he told the people not to stone an adulteress, or when he healed on the sabbath). No conservative, of any time, does that.
But, alas, no such person ever existed. (1)

Interesting premise. I doubt many of the faithful would agree Jesus was a liberal...even though, in much of what he did and said, he did not follow the kind of conservative approach we see today. Interesting question.

Jesus was God. He had no political orientation. There is no possible political position for a Christian other than God's position, and his position on all issues is clearly indicated in the Holy Bible. Anyone who is not behind God's position is a non-Christian who is going to Hell.

i think of Jesus as beyond any human political institution or label
but i agree with you that Fundamentalists and Conservatives fail to see they don't have the "hold" on Him or Salvation that they think they do
Jesus belongs to everyone
but we need to embrace Him
i know i certainly DO

He did wear birkenstocks.
I guess anyone who believes in Jesus but thinks that the poor should be left to fend for themselves is in a bit of a bind.

Jesus is Liberty & Justice for all. And only those redeemed go to heaven. Because even one sin unatoned for will keep us out.
