The rings were purchased in 1976, the case that they came in says "budds direct diamond importers". I live in a secluded area or I would have a jeweler appraise them. I am hoping to find info online.

OK!!!! Just so you know my mother was a horrible woman who abused and beat all of her kids, me the worst because I was oldest. At the suggestion of my therapist who is trying to help me deal with the chaos this woman has caused in my life, I am getting rid of anything I own of hers. Mind your personal business and answer the question or leave me alone.

CLARIFICATION. what I would really like to know is info about the company that made them so that I can look them up online and know what my father paid for them just to have a place to start.

If they are your mothers rings and she had a good marriage I would say that they are invaluable for sentimental reasons, but online is definitely not the place to try to appraise them. Things like carrot size, setting and clarity have to be taken into consideration.

The cut, clarity, and color of the diamond is what determines the value of diamonds. You can have a very big diamond, and a smaller diamond. The smaller diamond can be worth more than the larger one if the quality is better. So you really will not be able to find anything that will tell you online. This will need to be done with a jeweler seeing and examining the diamond/s. A jeweler who does appraisals will have to give you the approximate value because all appraisers can differ in the appraisal usually. If you have 3 appraisals that are in the ball park of $50 to $150, then you will know about what the set is worth.
Who made them is not going to effect the value unless it is a company like Tiffany's. Any stamp on the inside of the rings is generally the company who made the mounting. There will need to be two stamps indicating the company who assembled and mounted the diamonds into the setting of the rings if one actually did this, plus the stamp of the karet content of the gold.

I don't think a reputable jeweler would handle an appraisal of jewelry online. A reputable jeweler would need to be able to physically see any markings on the ring, they would also need to be able to examine the diamond under a microscope, to check for inclusions.
If all you're wanting to do is get rid of the ring, to aid in your therapy, why not donate it to the Goodwill, or even a women's shelter? Make sure you let whoever know that it is a genuine diamond, so they don't sell it for $5 or something like that, but then you'd have the benefit of helping someone less fortunate as well as getting rid of something that for you has painful memories attached to it. A non-profit would be in a better position to get the ring appraised in a larger city, and get close to a reasonable value for it.

I completely understand your situation. I am looking to get my mother's ring appraised, but for insurance reasons for now. I don't think this is something you can do online. Professionals would be your best bet. I'm assuming that you must travel to get to your therapist appointment, why don't you bring it with you and then after your appointment go to a couple jewelers for appraisals. The prices of these materials - gold/silver , diamond/gem stones fluctuate in value almost every day. I think that getting it appraised by a professional would be best. Then, when you sell it you can provide the buyer with the appraisal.

If you have a digital camera at your convenience i would take some pic's of the ring and maybe email them to jewelrs. Of course it will not be a very accurate appriasal because they cannot physicaly see the condition of the ring but its a start maybe?
Edit: Ok if you are looking for info about the company then just do a search for "budds direct diamond importers" and see if they are still in business. Does the ring have any paperwork statin what it was worth at the time?

I would like to help you but I have to tell you an appraisal online isn't worth anything. You really need to have them looked at by a qualified jeweler. I wouldn't chance letting them go for what may end up being substantially less than they are worth.
Don't let these other people bother you, some of the answers about you selling them were just rude and ignorant. It's no one's business why you may choose to sell them. There are always some people who feel they have the right to stick their nose where it doesn't belong.

What someone paid for them in 1976 is not relevant, Go to the a jeweler and get them appraised at today's prices. Then sell or not. The information you get online may not be valid.

If you know what city they were purchased in that would be a start. There was no internet then so they had to come from some store. I am assuming that your dad is unavailable to help you.
A jewelery store could appraise them for you. Do NOT sell them to the first store that gives you an appraisal...shop around to get the best price.

I just tried a google search and came up with ZILCH on this company that you mentioned. Your probably going to have to take the piece of jewelry to a jeweler. I wish I could help you. Being that the piece of jewelry is over 30 years old, I wouldn't know how much it's actually worth. Good luck.
