I just fry bacon and add the cabbage to that pan and let it all simmer together. Also adding some salt can help, or even a bit of bacon stock. Butter can help with the flavour too, MMMMM I love proper sauerkraut, but it isn't the best for your waist line, lol

Bake it with some pork tenderloin. Add a little brown sugar, minced onion and finely diced apple to the sauerkraut and bake in a covered roasting pan with the tenderloin and some small new potatoes.

Try adding some brown sugar and diced granny smith apples. Place it in a baking dish and top with seasoned pork chops or pork roast and bake. The juices from the pork will enhance the flavor and they make a nice blend together!

How about a Polish Sausage on a toasted sesame seed sweet roll with some dijon mustard?
I realize this isn't exactly what you had in mind but it was the first thing to pop into mine!

Curry and shrimp with red/yellow/orange bell peppers? Sounds good to me! Tangy, spicy, sweet.

Polska Kielbasa or Bratwurst would be really good with it.
