I got my hair highlighted about 2 months ago and i have like at least an inch of roots now...my hair is like dirty blonde and my highlights look more yellowy now and i don't like it. would it be better to get more highlights and fill in all the root spots or color it all over? and what box highlights are good, i've used garnier color breaks and other ones, i'm pretty good at the diy hair stuff..?

i dye from a box (for about 3 years) and i try to use loreal brand or nice and easy bc it doesn't dry out my hair. If you have the cash, get it done at a stylist but if not, it is not hard to use the box dye. If you can match the color, touch ups might work but sometimes its hard and you have to color it all over. Look around and hold the box to your own hair it's usually a good indicator.

*If you go to a salon, I would ask them to use the formula that removes copper/orange hues.

*If you do it yourself, I would use an all over color by Garnier Fructese that is closest to your "natural shade" and also buy the lightest "ash" shade to use for highlights.

Or if you get the highlight kit, make sure that its an ash color. Ash colors have no copper/orange and give a more natural look than fake hair. Which will leave your hair looking professionally done. The best result would be either using the cap (which you pull strands through) or using foil ( grab sections, put color, foil up).

It really depends if you want to choose where you want the highlights or if you want the professional opinion of the cap to show you where the highlights should go.

I recommend getting the tubes of permanent color at a beauty supply shop like Sally's, for ex. Wella Color Charms. And buy a quart bottle of the developer, and it'll all cost less than one box kit from the discount stores
The good thing about these is 2-4 applications come in the tube, and the developer will last through a number of tubes of color. It turns out much cheaper and better quality than the drugstore stuff. You can also get more variety of colors and you can avoid the yellow or brassy outcomes from the non-pro stuff.

I would color it all over and have your highlights done again. I don't color my hair anymore. I let the gray show =( I'm only 34, but I'm tired of fighting it. I keep getting told that I don't look anywhere near 34, blah blah blah...I think people are just being sweet.

Anyway, after all of that unwanted ranting and raving, I would start over...there's a new season, so why not get a new hairstyle?

i consider myself a very low maintenance woman, however some hair color jobs are best left for the professionals. hair color is very tricky, escpecially when you have a couple of colors going on at one time.
take my advise, just wait because you will more than likely wind up at the salon for a "color corrector" save yourself the hair damage, aggravation and time, go to the salon..

I would color all over, adding more lightner to the highlights will cause brassy gold. Or white

Well, what do you want? If you can rehighlight your hair without messing it up, and you want your hair like that ... go for it! If you want something different, then dye it different.

Becareful though of constantly dying your hair over and over again. It does cause damage.

dont use highlights from the box, they can really screw your hair up, just go back to your stylist and tell her/him that you need a touch up

Don't take the risk. Go to a hairdresser.
