you will need to download a driver because some sound cards are not included int the microsoft driver database. run a scan on www.drivers.com and download a driver.

Most common problem there is after a "wipe clean". The CD you used to reinstall Windows did not have the driver for your sound card, so it did not install one. Within the driver, the card will not work.

Go to the web site of the manufacturer of the PC and lokk in their Download or Driver section. Serach for you model and you should find the audio driver for your PC. Follow the instructions at the web site to install it. After that, you will have sound again.

(Save the file you download in case you ever have to wipe th PC again)

I expect it's more than just your sound driver. Get up on the manufacture's site and get the right drivers. Some of the third party driver sites seem to be the source of the problem as they install spyware and open you up for more spam.
