Most contemporary Christians religion swear it is Eve, but the Gnostic Bible tells a story of Lilith, who was created at the same time and in the same manner as Adam, but refused to bear all of his children and chose to follow her own path. So Adam was caused to go into a deep sleep, where God created Eve from Adam's rib.
Some Bible scholars claim the Catholic Church removed the story of Lilith and focused only on Eve as the first woman to subjugate all the women in the church. Their way of thinking was that women should (still) stay home and bear the children and be subservient to men. The church leaders were afraid if women knew the story of Lilith, they would seek to do what women in free countries do today - take care of themselves, have their own money, own land, own businesses, learn the secrets of the universe, vote and hold office, and in the end, not really need men (except to help carry really heavy items, reach for the items on the top shelf, fix the broken toilet handle, you know, that sort of thing.)
