The lastest version is "2007". But it is also a memory, resource and hard drive hog. If you are not running a PC that is less then a year old and has 2Gig of memory (or more), you should probably go with one of the older versions.

Office 2003/XP (goes by both names) will work on most computers and does an excellent job. It is compatible with all versions of Windows. The files made by 2003/XP are usable with 2007, but files made with 2007 may not be compatible with 2003.

You might also try out the "free" version of Word and Excel, called Open Office at this link http://openoffice.org
It is compatible with all versions of Word and Excel up to 2003, and if not yet compatible with 2007 will be within six months.

if you will be using it for simple word processing like typing documents and creating basic files, you may try to consider the Microsoft Office 2007 Student and Teacher Edition roughly US $140 - 150. or you may want to try using the free downloadable word processing that functions same way as the software you mentioned above.. it is called open office.. you can download it from

for support.. go to http://www.openoffice.org/
goodluck..

There isn't a selection. Just buy the MS Office suite.. or buy those Microsoft applications separately.
