This one was puzzling. A while ago I decided that they couldn't really want it to pass, because if they did they wouldn't spring text in the dark of night the day before a vote, avoid committee review (it has never even made it out of committee as a stand alone bill) and would have made the actual text say what they pretend it does in all the news stories, rather than create a web of waivers, fraud and future incentives.

Am I the only one who thinks the Republicans aren't the only ones interested in keeping this as an election issue?

I think you hit the nail on the head DAR. The same is happening with this as the reform bill. Add ons that make it unreasonable and will in no way pass. I think you're very astute.

I feel like the Democrats are holding people hostage to get votes. THey point out how cruel the Republicans are, when they add all these bells and whistles to make it unpassable. They leave these kids on limbo just so they can pretend they are taking the high ground. Was there a time when politics was doing the right thing rather than getting a party in power. I have no problem letting the illegal immigrants who came in as children to stay, but all the additional text makes it unacceptable. I am willing to live with letting illegal immigrants who did not commit a crime stay if the bill show dedication to stop future illegal immigration. Instead, the reform bill starts letting the undesirable stay as well. TO tell the truth, I'm hoping it is a Democratic plot, because the alternative is scary. I know people who are so far in the left, that it scares me. I hate to consider that our leaders are so out of touch with reality.

No... Its all for show, its a way of pacifying the heavy special interest that is behind the bill and all the voters who are either for or against the legislation.

They make it so that everybody gets something... The pro group gets to see legislators fighting hard for the children of illegal immigrants and the anti group gets to see legislators fighting to control illegal immigration and stop amnesty. Seems like they know exactly what they are doing in regards to this particular bill......

Oh it's not your imagination. None of them expected such an outcry from the American People. Any time something is done in the dead of night, they intended to pass it, hoping everybody was asleep at the switch. Now that everybody knows who was doing what, they still stand to loose the election in 2008 on other relevant issues. The same ones that wanted Amnesty are for a plethora of other things detrimental to America.

No. The Dems are hoping for a Dem President with Dems in "charge" of both houses again. Then everything they want for the illegals will pass regardless of what American citizens want.

I think you are right. Democrats don't want to have to make a stand on it either. Their constituents are angry as well.

I think it's very telling with the senators who abstained on the issue.

McCain - R AZ
Boxer - D CA (she's there with the wildfires)
Dodd - D CT
Kennedy - D MA

And the Democrats who voted Nay who, with few exceptions, were from states particularly affected by illegal aliens.

No, but it's the Democrats that keep bringing it up and trying to sneak it through. I fought this thing so many times I'm wondering if we have to either shoot it with a silver bullet or drive a stake through its heart to finally kill it.

It'll be an election issue for sure. People on both sides of the aisle will be bringing up their opponents voting record on the issue.

The American People have spoken. The elected drones need to either start listening...or update their resumes. I will NOT vote for any incumbent that has voted to pass any form of this shameful amnesty.

I don't think they ever had the intention of passing the bill, they just wanted to put on a good show.
