Christian or not doesn't matter but seriously, if you caught someone in your house raping your daughter, strangling your wife, or whatever, would you be willing to Kill to stop that person? Why or why not?

I'm asking because I know a lot of Christians say killing/murder are the same thing. are there exceptions in your mind to when you consider something a sin? Why or why not?

By the way I think I would also........but I"m wonder what you think God has to say about it (scripture please) has anyone studied the true meaning of "kill" in the bible and do you think God would be okay with self defense?
Why or why not?

YES. Here's why.

(1) Jesus is nonviolent, not pacifist. The best distinction I've seen came from Stanley Neuhaus (I think), who said the protective use of force to re-establish peace and harmony is not the same as committing violence, which disrupts the peace and harmony.

(2) Turning the other cheek is preferable but not our only option.

(3) Choosing not to act in Love to our neighbors being victimized in order to Love the assailant is inconsistent with the Gospel.

(4) Choosing to harm someone harming others in order to restore peace is loving the person who is at the moment a conduit of hate.

Hi there, There can be many "unknowns" when it comes to dog attacks but generally speaking the greatest age group at risk from dog attacks are young children under the age of 5. This is because not only because they are obviously small but they cannot read the signals that dogs give out when they are unhappy. It is very unusual for a dog to attack without reason. Just like people you get the odd very nasty one but a dog is moulded by the actions of it's owner, not of it's breed. We don't know the full story here, for one i'd be willing to bet that that dog and children were left unattended - in my personal opinion no child should be left unattended with ANY type of dog. There have been many cases of fatalites to young children and babies over many different breeds, even Dachsunds! The child could have been unwittingly poking or otherwise badgering the dog which a parent keeping an eye on their child would see and ensure wouldn't happen. We also don't know whether the animal was an entire breeding animal, or neutered which is often a big factor. Secondly the media has a wonderful way of making a dog which is kept outside in the garden seem like a loved family pet, unless you know the family then I wouldn't even trust anything you read in the paper or on the T.V about such attacks - often the why's and hows are misrepresented in an effort to give more of a horror effect for the listener (Family dog kills child in unprovoked attack versus Dog kept outside kills young child left unattended) - the first given story sounds exciting, the second story is a tragic accident where undoubtedly bad parenting and bad dog ownership are to blame. Dog attacks themselves are actually very very rare. Your chances of being killed by a dog are one in 18 million, you are 5 times more likely to be fatally killed by lightening! In a world where people kill each other by the thousands every day we need new horrors to focus on, so mans best friend comes under fire. There has actually been a lot of research done on this subject - you might like to read one of the two books i've listed below as my sources of information - especially "Dogs Bite" as this is more specifically about dog bite statistics. It really is an eye opener and really brings home the truth that often what we hear in the news isn't the reality and that in pretty much all cases it isn't "loving family dog gone bad" but more some other factor playing a part. They are fantastic books and great reads, couldn't recommend them more! P.S My dog is a Rottweiler who was rescued from a family where she spent most of her days being tortured by two toddlers who spent the day pulling her ears and tail, it wanted me want to snap let alone the dog! All this whilst parents who couldn't be bothered and were only interested in breeding her sat back and didn't care. My dog like many thousands of dogs each day put up with this without a murmer, a true testament to the breed I feel. These dogs deserve far more than the scare stories that are given.

Yes. If someone were trying to harm my family (close friends are included in "family"), I would be willing to go so far as to pull the trigger...

Killing and Murder are not the same. If someone breaks into my house with the intent to harm my family and I kill them, that's not the same as if I sit around for a few days and dream up some plan to murder someone. It's the intent behind the action... not just the action itself. That's where a lot of people get in trouble when they make quick judgements about people they don't even know. ;-)

I would kill if there was no other way to protect my family. The bible/commandment that says "thou shalt not kill" means that you should not murder or kill someone just because they look at you wrong or make rude comments. You should not kill to take that which is not yours to begin with. You should not kill indiscriminately. Even Wicca law says "harm none:, but that too is a guideline and the exception is if your life or the lives or others are in danger from those who do so because they like killing!

No it is not a sin to protect yourself in self-defense.

I am a Christian and keep a loaded firearm near my bed; if someone tried a home invasion, I wouldn't try to shoot the guy in head or heart, but try to maybe get him in the kneecap or arm, to diasable him. If something worse happens to him, well, that's the dangers of crime, the perpertrator should be aware of that.

As far as the passages go, I won't paste them, hopefully you do have a Bible handy, to look them up. good q!

Defense is protection during an attack:

Of a city (2 Kings 19:34)
Of Israel (Judges 10:1)
Of a plot (2 Samuel 23:11,12)
Self-defense of the righteous (Psalm 7:10)

I am a strong believer in God and faith so I think I wouldnt kill the person but I wouldnt just stand there. I would try knocking them out or injuring them to protect my family. I would pray for forgiveness. I think killing somone would feel horrible and then never seeing your family again if you get sent to prison, that would be worse. I beleive God knows how we all die and some die through the devil's way but if its our time then its our time. I have faith God watches over my family anyway.

I would. God gave me my children to love and protect. It would be a sin, but it would be a greater sin to let an evil person hurt my child. I wouldn't kill to protect my property, though.

The Bible term used was DO NOT MURDER, you have to go back to the orginal greek and hebrew words to understand the Bible fully, much of this coming now in these last days to awaken us all to deeper meaning as mysteries of the Bible being revealed.
ITs DO NOT MURDER.
Self defesnse is not a sin, nor is the defnese of ones country, but to murder is a sin.
If someone were trying to hurt me or my family, yes I would use self defense as I had to, but would still try if possible to convince them to give it up and turn to God. Sometimes that can come and somtimes not. But I would still lvoe and forgive them, but God doesnt want us to let others kill us or our family. I would do all I could not to have to really hurt or kill another in self defnese bit of me and my family, but I would do my best to get them to pray and give up the violence if possible. Not everyone allows that to be possible. But they are only victims of all lifes circumstances too. I dont execuse it, I say God loves us the same, and if we can turn somes wrath into love, then so be it. It would sadden me deeply to have to hurt another person let alone take their life, but if I had no choice, yes i would do what I had to.
God expects us to do this, too. God even sends us to war to self defend for our country too. Pppl misunderstand the do not murder for do not kill. Two very different things.
Murdering an unform baby, is still murder too.
Just had to toss that n, as most wont see it that way.
Taking an inoocent life is always murder....... But someone trying to harm you is not murder.
Thanks for the question. God bless you.

Of course, that's what husbands are for...that and sire services!

Do you think allowing others to kill is OK, but killing them first breaks a commandment?

My family does not come before God, but he prohibited murder, not self defence!

Besides, I'm covered by the blood of our murdered Messiah!
