I just purchased a new digital camera and a camcorder. I was wondering if there were any tips, techniques, or products that would let me view the screen easier in bright sunlight. Is there something I can put over the screen? I own the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K, so if anyone has used this camera I would appreciate info on how viewable this screen is in sunlight. Since this is my first digital camera I would like to know what to expect. Thanks.

Besides shading with your hand, which helps slightly, I think you're out of luck. Since your eyes are desensitized due to your eye pupils closing down, you will have a hard time seeing an external LCD screen on any camera. You should be able to see that you didn't cut someone's head off, but that's about it when viewing an LCD screen in bright light conditions. If you really need to review your shots, find a shaded area (preferably indoors), give your eyes a moment to adjust to the dimmer conditions, then review your shots.

However, many cameras, still and camcorders, have a histogram mode which give you an idea of your exposure setting. Some cameras and camcorders have a highlight (also known as zebra stripe) mode which blink the overexposed areas. If your shots aren't exposed properly, you can override your exposure setting with the exposure compensation if your camera has this feature.

Look in your manual and see if you have a histogram and/or highlight viewing mode. While your looking at your manual, see if you can make exposure compensation adjustments. It's a good idea to learn how to use the exposure compensation adjustment (may be marked as "EV" on your camera).

There is nothing magical you can do, it's not just the screen too, but your eye has adjusted itself to the outside light. Get in the shadow and cover it with your hand to see it. I'm sure you can rig up some dark cover with a peephole too....
