Talk to you vet, but the fact is, you need to know what type of worm it is, flat, tape etc..

Amazon ships out ! and your in luck they are 80% off today.

If your cat has them, he'll keep getting them. He's probably eating mice!

Yes, the over the counter dewormers are effective against the type of worm that they are labelled against. The issue is that they typically only treat one kind of worm and without fecal testing, you can't diagnose the most common and most serious of the worms that cats and kittens can have. So you can choose an otc dewormer, but how do you know if it is the one you need? And typically the labels don't give you good information on how often you should use the product and the people who work in pet/feed stores don't know any more about the products than you do. For example, I overheard a feed store owner advising a person on how to deworm their puppy with a product they were purchasing: "You treat once today and then you don't need to retreat for 6 months for roundworms." This is as far from correct information as you can get and that is a bad thing because the common parasites of dogs and cats--roundworms and hookworms--can be transmitted to humans and cause serious health issues in humans. Contamination of yards with the eggs of these parasites can last for years and thus put every human that goes into that yard at risk. How did you know your cat had roundworms? And how do you know that you cleared them without fecal testing because unless the infestation is really really severe you aren't going to see adult parasites passed in feces. When do you need to retreat your cat for parasites? (You retreat at different intervals for kittens/cats than for dogs.) You can purchase OTC products and they will work if you get lucky enough to choose the right one, but you won't know if they are truly effective or if you treated the correct parasite or all the parasites that your pet has or when to retreat.

this is best left to the vet, and the visit isn't that expensive, i had 'pringers wormed a while back and the visit (with a poo sample) only cost twelve bucks...that included the wormer pill that the vet poped in 'pringer's mouth and had her swallow it so fast we didn't know what happened. (we have a very good vet.)
