Brilliant point. It could be that our educational system is not equal across the board. A lot of people have received a subpar education so you can't expect them to reason well or think critically.
I read an editorial or article today on Iraq and the author stated that Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkey are turning against us, essentially. All is starting to fall apart. We are less secure. If we were smarter and paid more attention, had a plan in place, then 9-11 would never have happened. There were so many signs but we dropped the ball big time.

I am not sure that "our" freedom is the question here. You are already free. How about the Iraqi's freedom? Freedom from fear of being torn from their families in the middle of the night to face torture and death. Freedom from having poison gas fired into your village, town or city. Freedom to be able to voice your discontent with out fear of retrobution.
The way I see it, is that while our troops are engaged in a war on terrorism, the terrorists are over in Iraq drooling at the mouth at the thought of killing Americans.
The Muslims are not going to go away, and will not stop until they have an all Muslim world. This is about a group of twisted minds using their religion to justify the killing of innocents along with the Americans.
If Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and who ever is turning against us, then it is because they have given up the fight. If they have given up, then they do not deserve our support. That goes for every other nation that bad mouths us even after we provide aid and financial assistance after natural disasters, etc.
And for every country that falls to terrorism and gives up the fight, and lets them dictate how things are going to be brings the threat of us losing our freedoms that much closer. Open your mind and look beneath the surface.
No one likes war. Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, sailors hate it more than anyone, but thank god they are there and willing to go in harms way for us all.

Some people think that the world is still a large place... that there's enough space for everybody... that it still takes months to circumnavigate the globe. Some people still believe that isolationism is a viable policy.
The world is, in general over-populated, over-developed, and over-polluted. The only places nobody lives are too inhospitable. As little as 200 years ago there was still room to expand. Today, with almost every inch of space occupied, the direction of expansion is upward. The people who used to live a week's travel, or a month's travel away now are only a few hours away. The world has effectively shrunk.
With the shrinkage, and with the people breeding like flies, there is no longer enough room for everybody. People are vying for arable land, and space to live. In the process we're destroying hundreds of acres of trees a day... trees tun the stuff we spew into the air into breathable oxygen Without oxygen we die. But nobody sees it... nobody cares.
To attack a country it used to take months to field an army. Today it takes a finger on a button, and within hours... even minutes, the enemy can be reduced to smoking, radioactive ruins. If Russia, China, and the US engage in an all-out nuclear war, nobody will survive. The exchange will be over in a few hours. The blasts will kill about half the world's population. Eventually the stockpiles of survival food and water will be used up and the population will have to leave their shelters to get more food and water. Those sources will be irradiated. Those who consume the tainted food and water will die of radiation poisoning... or other diseases caused by the destruction of sanitation services
But that's not all. The dust and debris blasted and evaporated by the blasts, and blown into the atmosphere will encircle the planet causing a nuclear winter. Most people are not prepared for that. They will succumb to exposure and die.
Critters with hardy constitutions and short life-cycles might adapt. But humans won't.
Some people believe that nobody would be dumb enough to pull the trigger that would result in a world nuclear exchange. They are wrong there too. There are countries with cultures that are about 1500 years old. Their technology has enabled them to look into the 21st century, but their culture has not adapted to what they have learned. For centuries, if their neighboring tribe disagreed with them, they just attacked it and eventually one or the other would see the other point of view... or die. Now those same aborigines have more sophisticated weapons. And they don't care if they die in the process of delivering them. So, for the price of a stamp, Anthrax can be delivered throughout the US. A single dirty bomb carried in a suitcase could irradiate much of San Francisco, New York, Chicago, pick a city.
Those who were around on 9/11 are painful;y aware that a country no longer needs to field an army. They only hve to sneak in a few with the desire to kill and no fear of death... even the desire to die. How hard would it be? Absolutely no problem at all. Our borders are just lines on maps to which nobody seems to pay any attention.
Time and again morons post their assertions that Iraq had nothing to do with Al-Qaeda, and that it had nothing to do with 9/11, and that there never were any WMD. Time and again people have posted the links between Al-Qaeda and Iraq. Time and again people have posted the statements of Democrats in office (including Clinton, Clinton, and Kerry) establishing his threat to use them. Time and again people have replied with links from Iraq and Hussein to the 9/11 terrorists.
These morons don't even know why we're in Iraq. The reasons are spelled out in
http://www.c-span.org/resources/pdf/hjres114.pdf
These morons are selfish, spoiled children. They think they're the only ones who should have the right to elect their government, to have a voice in it. They think they're the only ones who should have any freedom. And, because they think threats that are half a world away are too far removed to be a threat, they preach isolationism. Yet they get paranoid if a registered rapist or child molester moves anywhere near them.
I see morons say that they would fight if the enemy was on or soil. Bull. The enemy IS on our soil... and they support him. He's the illegal alien who would undermine our economy, our culture, and our government. He's the guy who hires the illegal alien. He's the guy with his hand out trying to get something for nothing. He's corruption and incompetence in the legislative, judicial and executive branches of government. He's the greedy some on a beach who raises the cost of living by demanding increased wages to keep up with the rising cost of living., who buys foreign products rather than support our economy... who carries a gas card for a station that imports oil from countries in the Middle East so he can fill his gas-guzzling (foreign made) SUV or Pickup.
"We have met the enemy... and he is us."
But there are some clear-sighted individuals who actually do love their country. They know the horrors of war and prefer to fight it as far from home as possible to prevent the horror from reaching their beloved country. And they have the courage of their convictions. They hear nothing but bile from their so-called "supporters." They hear how terrible their country is... how terrible their command structure is... how terrible their mission is... and how terrible they are. Those "protesters" who bash them really ought to be thankful these men and women in uniform are not the beasts the protesters call them. Were they, upon the return of the troops, the streets would be flowing with the blood of protesters.
The war in Iraq is an effort to give the country back to Iraq... and not to a few who would seize power and set up another Husseindom. We deposed one dictator. We don't want to leave the door open for another.
So, in answer to your question, "No. The silliest thing anyone could say is that the war in Iraq is useless to the US."

We in this Country have had it so easy that some to not appreciate what they have. Terrorisms is a disease and is not isolated to Afghanistan. Several terrorist cells have been found in Iraq. You do not have to agree with the war but you should ask yourself just one question, how many attacks have occurred since 911. Now quit whining about and thank a soldier, Marine, Airman, or Seaman. They have taken the fight to their soil, have disrupted their communication, and have weakened their resolve. The problem is those who are so vehemently against the war and pulling out strengthen what resolve they have left.
Now rather then trying be demeaning of anothers oppinion by refering to it as silly, just simply disagree because your point could be considered by some to be silly as well.

Get ready to hush your face. "81150A" .."1969 to 1975" .Mac...SAC..(The MAC role in Vietnam was essentially the same as had been that of its predecessors in World War II and Korea - providing long-range airlift from the United States to overseas bases. (Vietnam) Here I am in Clark..http://www.cla.
I know what M.A.C. . . . S.A.C. stands for, but flying into and out of Vietnam with a shuttle service does not make you an expert, not even sure could you qualify for R.E.M.F. classification to use the jargon of the day. Just how many "hours" did your feet spend on the ground in Vietnam.
By the way your link does not work either, I hope you provided a better service in the years "1965 - 1975"
So sad from Mac SAC to Sad Sac Troll!!

it is unforutnate that people are incapable of opening their thought processes to things outside of the box.
The original fight was in Afghanistan, we did it... did not finish it... Bin Laden is still out there somewhere.
The continuing fight has to go where those who choose to take away our freedoms are. Currently there are a lot of terrorist groups fighting in Iraq against the US and coalition forces. If we leave Iraq, they will feel they won, that we turned tail and ran... What will that do? It will be like an impromptu invitation for those terrorists to come over here and do what they've already done once.
Some have said we are not free. That is true. We have to pay for every dang thing in the country, including those things that we should not have to pay for, like healthcare for illegal immigrants, public aid for the same, taxes to pay for jails that are housing the same illegal immigrants, and our own home-grown criminals. We are not free as a bird, but we are free to ask silly questions, and good questions. We are free to question our government, and effect change by voting without a gun to our backs.
It is not a silly statement...It is thought through, but not explained very well.
I am not political, I am not pro-war, not pro-GWBush, not pro-much of anything except for that which I hold closest to me, my family, my ability to be a woman and work and learn and read, and speak my mind, and not have to cover my skin, my face, my head. I think that all things should be given the content of their intentions, including the person who said what you quoted.
I hope you find your solutions and answers. They are not easy to come by.
Kate
addendum:
What in my comments would prompt so many negatives? Is it such a shame to be working, saying what I want to, and believing that there is really a good reason for what is going on over there?
Gee... I guess I could be negative-Nelly and just say Bush is a dork, he is the Anti-Christ, and his war for oil in Iraq is all for his own pockets.
but I don't believe that for a moment.
Let the negativity fly!!! It's your right as an American, or as someone who has the ability to be a free-thinker. You can thank a service-person for that!!! (You're welcome)

Freedom can be defined as monetary -- when Jefferson wrote of Freedom in the Declaration of Independence, he was referring to money.
The war in Iraq was a continuation of the first gulf war (Desert Storm) and the up holding of the cease fire agreement that was to have brought that war to an end. It is now very much about oil and Iran. When one considers that the world economy runs on oil and Iran has openly stated that when the U.S. leaves, they are "ready to fill the vacuum of leadership in Iraq" and that Iran exports terrorism in an attempt to destabilize Iraq... Add to that all of the anti-western rhetoric coming from Iran and a wise person would suddenly see that their "freedom" is very much in jeopardy. Can you just imagine what will happen should Iran suddenly control the world's economy?

It has not made us free. If fact we have to this point lost the war on terrorism. According to today's paper, Bush's wars will have cost each man, woman and child $8,000 by the end of a decade. As a result of Bush's response to the actions of those thirteen terrorists responsible for 9/11 we are spending billions, we have lost nearly 4,000 American lives, tens of thousands of our young people have been physically and mentally maimed for life, we are responsible for taking the lives of tens of thousands of innocent lives, hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been forced out of their homes, we have had many constitutional rights taken from us, we sit in endless lines at our borders waiting to cross, our "leader" is treating war with other countries, our leader condones treatment of prisoners we have taken which we would condemn if others did it to American prisoners, our leader is building missile systems to protect Europeans from missiles another country doesn't have, we can't afford health care for our own children, and to top it off we are no safer than we were before 9/11. In fact we will never be able to prevent another 9/11 type attack regardless of the amount of money we spend or the number of American lives we sacrifice or the number of others we kill. These facts are not "silly" they are sad.
