Become anyone of those two, they are both good and will give you experience. However CSO does more writing reports than Reserves, but reserves has more hands on than CSO. So they both equal out. Get into any that you can.

A degree is always a plus. Apply to any and every agency including the tiny villages looking for part-time help. You very well may be hired by a larger agency (if thats your goal) right away but get experience anyway you can (part-time, CSO, reserve). Ride alongs also help to a certain degree - especially with agenices you apply to as the officer you ride with may get to know you a little and transfer that info to administration regarding your standing in the hiring process - whether good or bad...

try applying for the ride-along program, that'll help a lot, and if you have not gone to the police academy, work out, stay fit, and read and write too, they want good officer who can write well good luck, oh yeah be a volunteer at your local police department, so when you apply at that department you'll get the job easily

Now a days they are looking for a degree in criminal justice or experience in the military police. This will often outweigh lack of experience when you apply.

Talk to local police and see what they recommend. Check with a police academy.
