"Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh" James 3:10- 12.

I have always applied this to things that we listen to as well.Music is a wonderful thing if what we listen to edifies and honors God, but if it brings honor to sinfulness we might as well be listening to the devil.I believe what you done is a step in the right direction.I would remind you though that when you make these decisions that old devil is not going to like it so get ready for an attack.Read Joshua chapter 1, let it soak in to your heart, and always remember, Your Father is the King.

That's for you to say. If you feel it was in your way, you did the right thing. If you wish you hadn't, it could be a) that you allowed yourself to be pressured into doing it by the opinion of others or b) you really have a sort of "addiction"--and addictions come in all shapes and sizes.

I found myself "addicted" to crime novels....we're talking, I would by 30 at the 2nd hand shop and read them ALL within 2 weeks. That's excessive. So I cleared them out of my house and kept away for several years. Now I find that I can read one occasionally but I am more selective and not as fascinated and obsessed by them. Anything that you realise is taking up far too much space and time in your life that should be spent on more profitable things, is a problem.

And that includes the computer! LOL

Depending on your criteria....because God's voice can be found in many "secular" songs that never mention Him by name....at the same time, there is alot of secular music that in no way reflects His Spirit. So kudos for at least caring enough to make an effort in this area and hopefully you chose wisely with right discernment (sounds like you did....God Bless you!)

Well done thou good and faithful servant.

Seek that which brings you closer to God.

Avoid that which moves you from the truth of God's Word.

The devil is a liar. He will do what he can to steal the soul of a man. He would kill all mankind if God did not prevent him.

He wants to kill all who are lost in their sins. Because if he is successful, he can keep their souls bound in death, having them cast into hell.

So we must continually ask ourselves if this or that is of God or is it a lie of the devil.

We live in a world where truth has become a rare commodity. Most choose to believe the lies of satan.

How can one discern between the truth and the lie? Only by faith in God's Son, the Word of God.

If owning this crap made you feel bad enough to burn up the bucks. then you did the right thing.
Music is like a gun in that it is what you do with it that matters not what it is. If it is unpleasant to the new you cast it off and God will bless you for looking to Him instead.
Don't let some fool chide you for not giving the garbage to someone else to get infected.

Lots of people do this. Music is very powerful. Some people make their CD collection their idols. Do as God leads you, but do it out of conviction and not because someone told you it was a good idea. I have gotten many things out of my life and out of my home because of conviction, and I've never regretted that. I've also gotten rid of things based on the opinions of others, and I've always regretted that.

My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding;yes, if you cry out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures; then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

RIGHT ON - BRAVO !! The Bible says we 'are in this world, but we are not of this world'. It is so much better to fill our minds with the Word and music of the Lord. It helps us to know Him better ! And to love Him more. Many years ago my oldest son did the same thing.......I was so proud of him, and thanked God for bringing him to do this !!
