but i do consider my self a satanist.

LaVeyan Satanism dosen't realy even have any thing to do with the devil.
the devil image was used as publisity

basically they main beliefs are that you can change your own destiny.
you are your own god.
you are just like any other animal on this planet
it has a lot to do with animal instincts
and how the deadly sins or christians are human nature
are are some other beliefs that can be found in the books

1. Do not give opinion or advice unless you are asked.
2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.

3. When in another's lair, show him respect or else do not go there.

4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.

5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.

6. Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved.

7. Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will loose all you have obtained.

8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself.

9. Do not harm children.

10. Do not kill non-human animals unless attacked or for your food.

11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him.

The Nine Satanic Statements

The Nine Satanic Statements are to outline what Satan within the Church of Satan Symbolizes. They are:

Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!
Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!

Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!
Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!

Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!

Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years!

The Nine Satanic Sins
Stupidity
Pretentiousness
Solipsism
Self-deceit
Herd Conformity
Lack of Perspective
Forgetfulness of Past Orthodoxies
Counterproductive Pride
Lack of Aesthetics

You can not be an atheist and believe in Satan, a form of magical deity or being.

My favorite name calling I get is "devil worshiping atheist" It just tickles me every time I hear it.

there is a satanist bible, written by anton la vey
i found it very interesting reading, though i'm not a member.

basically, they say that humans need to worship something, so they externalise their ego and call it God. instead of doing this, they accept that they have an ego and 'worship' themselves, though not quite in the same sort of way i guess.
they say that the church created the idea of 'sin' to repress man's carnal nature, and that the 7 deadly sins are in fact the natural instincts of man.

they use the phrase 'do unto others as they do to you', reasoning that if you do unto others as you *want* them to do unto you, you will be walked all over.

there are rituals and stuff too, because they say humans need ritual in order to be human and that is why humans worship gods. but the satanist take is that you do the ritual and then take positive steps to achieve what you want to, thus ACTIVELY doing something about it, rather than praying for God to help you, which is PASSIVELY wishing for it.

i hope that made sense...a bit waffly, but hey. XD. search for the Satanist Bible by Anton La Vey - it's got more info. (i have it as a PDF, so it should be avaliable on the net)

We have two Satanist regulars here. No they don't worship the devil, they are atheistic. Satan simply SYMBOLIZES certain concepts that they believe in.

I'm not. Not all Satanists are atheists. There are people who are Theistic Satanists. They believe in a literal deity of Satan.

they are not atheists. does wikipedia say that? it's wrong.

satanists are CHRISTIANS. they believe the same world view, the same metaphysics, the same everything, they just choose the other side of the equation.
