CJ is as close to automatic as I get, but I did actually give him a thumbs up once on an abortion question. Other than that he pretty much has the same answer to everything "Catholics are not saved Christians..." but I usually read it any ways in case he adds something else to his message of hate.
Labgrrl is another one who is close, but I do give her a thumbs up every now and then. I am more inclined to thumb her down because she blocked me based on an email response I sent her that she completely misunderstood and won't admit it. She thinks I was being disrespectful, when in reality that was not my intention at all. I think she was just having a close-minded day.

Never. I never thumbs down someone for speaking their mind (within the community guidelines). That's what this open forum is for. If someone actually understands that they are here to pick the *best answer* for the question and not the "opinion closest to mine", then it's not too hard of a challenge.
I read the answer. If I think it is well written and fitting for the question, I give it a thumbs up. If it is not well suited or incomplete, thumbs down. It is a grey area for funny answers. I usually like those, as long as they're not overly rude. It really depends.
I've seen plenty of people get a thumbs down simply because the person didn't agree with their opinion (which is NOT what YA is for). That answer went on to be the answer the asker picked as best. An opinion that differs from yours is not necessarily a bad answer. I've given thumbs up and down to people based on the relevant content of their answer, not their beliefs or background.
I very rarely give a thumbs down, unless the answer is flat out disrespectful and violating community guidelines, or horribly imcomplete.

Yes, as of late, Catholic Crusader always gets "a down" from me. The dude rubs me the wrong way, I can't help it. It's not like my thumbs down is going to ruin his day or black list him or something... I just don't want to waste anymore of my time reading his answers. So, I thumbs down and his answer disappears! Ah, that feels good. Don't know why, but it does.
Edit: I agree that I often do the same with Fireball. Not automatically though.

I rarely thumbs down, and never automatically. I've even thumbs upped people I disagree with usually. I think I gave Catholic Crusader thumbs up the other day.

Nope. There are a few people that may get thumbs down from me quite often but every once in a while they may let a nugget of truth slip out and I'll give them a thumbs up.

There are some users, I generally put the cursor directly over the thumbs-down icon before reading the answer.
They normally don't disappoint.
But I always read them, to make sure, first.
Even a retarded monkey might type something relatively intelligent from time to time.

I actually gave a thumbs up the other day to a user who has personally attacked me and what I believe in. She gave a good answer, what can I say. Principles before personalities.

I'm quite sure there are plenty of people like that, however, the thumbs up or down that I personally give has more to do with how relevant the answers are, or if they happen to amuse me in the case of some of less serious questions

I thumbs down anything with a link to King Crusader's website... then I report it- he may have the freedom to spew his hate speech, but there are rules and guidelines that he did agree to. If he's not going to follow them, I won't think twice to point that out. I report spam- and that includes spam from my side of the argument as well.
While I do thumb Fireball quite often, it usually only takes a glance to read her meaningless answers... otherwise I only thumb stupid answers down.
