I would say, the best part is LOOSING the fish that you had on your line. The bigger, the better. If pisses you off so much in a good way that you have to go back the next day. The best thing is, you'll never know what type of fish it may have been, or how big it could of been.

I can have just about as good a time just relaxing on the bank not catching anything. Just being at the lake (or pond) and taking it easy.
The thrill of the catch and the fight in the fish is an awesome thing too. I especially like the fight some of them put up, it's exciting because you never know if your going to land it or if will get off until you get it in. Also you never know if it's going to be a BIG ONE, or just a good fighter.
Of course the eating part is good too. I can't think of much better food then some nicely cooked fish and fixings.

The most interesting part would be the brief interval between lighting the fuse on the 1/4 stick of dynamite and tossing it in, followed by the underwater explosion. "Fishing" is an excuse to go out on the bayou on your bateaux with a bunch of your amis, a jug or two, and just have a good, lazy day shootin the s*** together. The last thing you do, just before heading in, is the getting of the fish. After the explosions, you take the dip-net, scoop-up what you turned into floaters, and then head home for some fish-fry. Nothin' like hushpuppies and fried catfish for dinner, finest-kind!

None of the above. The best part is getting out in nature, relaxing and enjoying yourself. Technically, I guess that qualifies as waiting hoping based on your question. If you are fly or spinning a lure, you are not spending much time waiting though. You are presenting the lure to the fish. Fishing is much more than just dragging fish out of the water or eating them though.

Waiting-Hoping. When I used to live in Florida, I would cut school just to fish with friends. The best part was waiting to see if any fish would bite our rediculous bait ideas (play-doh , poop , aluminum , peas, tea bags). I think only play-doh and poop worked. But it was great. Seeing all the fish go near the bait. The ones that actually ate it were the best. We caught a small fish with poop, then used that fish to catch a 25 pound carp! It was great.

I would have to say the most interesting is catching-pulling cause this is what the angler is waiting & hoping for...the chance to use their skill to see if they "land" or "miss" the catch.

It is interesting to take in & absorb everything around you while your waiting-hoping & it's just plain good if you get to the cooking-eating part!

Trying to figure out HOW to catch the fish. It varies by the hour, weather, day, etc. Fishing is a challenge and I enjoy that.

PS...Unless you are catfishing, where you throw a worm or some stink bait out and let sit on bottom for countless hours waiting for a fish to happen by.

The moment you step out of the door to go fishing. One always leaves with the hope and expectation of catching a monster fish. Once the door is locked, one starts to think, wonder, and foresee with total optimism.

I like getting ready.
Planning a great trip, getting the gear in shape, readying the boat and packing to go.
Taking a picnic and riding out to sea or across the lake, I love the hype and joking and comraderee. Once the lines are in the water, kicking back waiting and tell lies about the last time we went fishing.
Catching is good too. I will eat in a restaurant if I have too, won't ruin my trip.

Mostly being out on the water, the peace and quiet, the scenery. Actually catching fish is only a bonus.
