its been fine up to now, held the button down as recomended 20s, but no display, totally blank.

Have you tried the reset button in the bottom??

you need to use a paper clip just hold the reset button in then turn on and all should be fine

Tom toms do this a lot always keep a paper clip in the car

Maybe the battery is just old now. You might need to send it in to apple and get a new battery. If it's not too old then they might do all the labor for free. You might also need to just restart it. All you do is hold down the middle button and the menu button for a few seconds at the same time.

Did you try talking to it?
What you may try. Remove the battery and any power source. Wait about a minute and reconnect everything and see if it come on. While you wait you could test the battery with a volt meter to see if it actually holding a charge and replace if not or see if the warranty replace.
This picture not the best. I not look to see what they test. But, with the meter set to DC red go to positive and black go to negative.
