I truly do not wish to offend I am just trying to increase my understanding of your religion. OK so here is my thought on the topic of God. If there is an ALL powerful, Omniscent, being do you think he would really have emotions? Wouldn't that in turn just degrade him to any other human being? What is the Christian veiw on this?

Its not that I see emotions as a weakness per se. What I was really getting at is all these Christian Extremists want to try to pin stuff like Katrina and now the fires in California on "God being angry" but wouldn't that anger in turn equal a weakness in the ability to control his emotions. And IF the fires in California were in fact caused by him then would that not just show as proof that God is no better than a 6 year old with a temper tantrum? This is why I personally can not believe now or could not believe when I was a christian that God had emotions. You cannot have Love without Anger or Hate. And Hate seems truly like a weakness to me. If one cannot agree to disagree with an issue then one is weak. to hold Anger towards someone and Hate someone seems weak to me. These all sound more like human emotions than emotions that a God/Perfect being would have. Furthermore if he knew everything that was going to happen before it happened. Then how could he be angry when it did?

We were created in God's image.

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Yes. Why wouldn't He have emotions. You're talking about God. He is everything. All powerful, all knowing. Without emotions, He wouldn't be much of a God.

Human being is a physical existence. Even your emotions aren't physical. So the idea that emotions would make God a physical being isn't logical.

Why not? Exactly? It's not emotion that is the trouble with humans. Many times it's the confusion of pride as emotion. Beside, I don't believe we understand the nature of God well enough to determine if there are emotions or not, nor whether the emotions that there may be.... are any that we would understand. In the end though, it is possible. It doesn't affect Faith.

In the Holy Bible God reveals Himself to man. In doing so He expresses sorrow, happiness, anger, joy, etc. The difference in us is that we tend to let our emotions rule our lives and the choices we make. It has been said that our emotions are the language of our soul and they are an added benefit to the expression of life rather than a desired end result or confirmation that we are doing the right thing such as making the right or best choice in our life. When viewed from this perspective emotions are an enhancement to life not a degrading factor. It is an unfortunate truth that man is easily manipulated throughout society by playing to our emotions. Since most of us do not know where we are going or who we are with clarity, it is that much easier to be controlled by our emotions rather than having them be a benefit and enhancement to our experiences in life.

How could He be omniscient if He had no understanding of emotions? I don't think He could be omniscient if He couldn't relate to the human condition. Therefore, it only makes sense that He would have emotions if He claimed to be all-knowing relative to the human condition.

Besides, He has given us ample evidence in the scriptures that He does have emotions, the foremost among them being love.

How does that "degrade" Him to any other human being? I don't think it does.

Good question, I think that we cannot compare God`s holy nature to our`s which is that of the creature,we indeed have emotions but God has a perfect nature that is really only known to Himself,I do not think that God is emotionless to use our language but perhaps unlike us He is not subject to emotion in the way we are, inh that we can be prisoners of our emotions and these can rule our heads and hearts.

The nature of God is a mystery to humans because we are not capable of understanding it. God is infintely perfect, and contains the perfection of all things, including emotion. How exactly that works... maybe we'll find out when we meet Him.

Well, there's a verse in the Bible which says man is made in God's image. Many people believe that refers to the qualities of mind (Father / soul) , body (Son), and spirit (Holy Spirit)

Emotion is perceived by the mind, and manifested in the body. Mystical? Yes.

Now I'll brace myself for the bone-crushing thumbs down for being honest =)

God bless!

I agree I don't believe God's emotions are like human emotions - they may be analogous, but in reality, every human emotion is tainted by sin & also we have bodies and brains, hormones and stomachs that affect our mood which God does not have because he is a spirit.

I think when the bible talks about God's emotions it is almost an anthropomorphism - we can relate to it but we can't really understand it.

The Bible says we were made in God's image. But it also says that through the fall sin entered the world, so we are like God in that we have emotions but unlike Him in the fact that He is absolutely perfect and cannot even look at sin.

Assuming you follow the whole Christian thing, then wasn't man created in gods image, ie. a mini version of himself, (less the omnipotent powers, and the fondness of smiteing)

So if we are all mini versions of god, then does it not follow that we are like god in our ways, as well as our appearances?

And if we are like god in our ways, then does it not follow that god is like us in his ways?

And if god is like us in his ways, then he would have to have emotions (After all most of the old testament is about god being quite vengeful, and acts of vengeance are entirely emotionally fueled)
