We live in base housing on an Air Force Base. We went to the Fall Festival held for base housing occupants only. One of the door prizes was a months free rent. When they drew the name, they announced that the woman that won had also won the YEAR'S free rent at the Christmas party the year before! So she won another month of free rent even though she's already receiving free rent through the end of this year (as has been all year). In my opinion, she should have not been eligible to win the prize again, ESPECIALLY while she's already receiving it! I called to ask about their rules on the matter and they were REALLY rude. They said "its discrimination to tell her she can't win it again and that's illegal." lol
Am I just being jealous or do I have something to be legitimately upset about? I know "its not fair" is so cliche', but it really isn't fair! lol

BTW - A classy woman would have said, "Thank you, but I've been receiving free rent for a year. Why don't you pick another name and let someone else have a chance." I can honestly say this woman is awful.... I met her later that day at my place of employment. She was telling me that her friends were mad that she won it again, but she just told them to "f*** off". She even said that she promised them she'd buy them dinner to celebrate, then later that evening, told them she wasn't buying them "jack sh**" because it was HER money! Mind you, at our base, the military gives you $776 a month as a housing allowance. If you live in base housing, then the rent is $776. She's gotten it for a year, plus another month. That's $10,088 of tax free money! Darn right I'm jealous and upset!

I know there's nothing I can really do about it. I'm over that part of it. She's just SUPER lucky. Good for her. It doesn't make me feel any less jealous or upset about it though. Life sucks sometimes. lol

I guess it'd be easier to be happy for her if she didn't seem so greedy.

Well it sounds like the rules say she can do it, but in my opinion,NO it's not fair and she really shouldn't be excepting another month in fact if she had any morals at all she would step down and insist it's someone else turn now.

I'd push the issue if the rules say specifically if a prior winner cannot win for a certain period of time. For example, a local radio station here in Birmingham AL won't let someone participate in any of their contests if that person has won a prize in the last 45 days. I think that's fair.
Does the person you talked to have a supervisor? Talk to them and be sure to report the rudeness. There's no excuse for being rude.

It's not discrimination or anything to do with that. It's also not illegal unless the rules specifically state that a winner can only claim a prize once a month, or once every 6 mos or a year. If none of that was specified than she is eligible to win as often as her name is chosen whether she's a snot about it or not. Whoever is in charge of offering these door prizes should set specific rules. They are the ones you should take your grievance to.

When so many people are hurting for money.....it doesn't seem fair. Life isn't fair a LOT. We had a guy in our community who already had a lot of money (AND from what I heard he was a jerk) and he won the lotto TWICE!!! I was upset because it just doesn't seem right.....why would someone who already can survive well keep getting more free money? I know MY chances are slim but I would have AT LEAST rather see some hard working or someone in trouble win......ya know? I KNOW how you feel.

You are just jealous. A month and a year of rent are two different things and can be won by the same person. It is like the guy that has won the lottery more than once. Should we tell him to quit playing?

On a very lesser scale, when I was in high school, we held a raffle for an ipod to raise money to pay for our yearbook. OUR PRINCIPAL WON! Instead of her giving it back for us to raffle again, (and possibly have a student win) she KEPT IT.
People don't have any class... it was extremely rude of her to accept it, especially because it isn't being used. If anything, since they weren't going to have to give her free rent per se in the first place, since she already had it, they should have pulled another name.

It's natural to be a little jealous, but much better to be happy for her. It's not fair that someone who wins millions in a state lottery wins often, but it's the luck of the draw. There really is no point in being upset about it.

you have a right to be upset, but that doesn't change the fact that she had the right to win the prize just like everyone else. it's just like people who play the lottery, some have won million dollar prizes and then kept on playing and won another big jackpot. some people are just lucky.

You are being jealous.
Someone who wins a random drawing is the winner. It makes no difference how many times he/she has won in the past.
Think of people who have won more than one lottery....should they not get the money for the second win?
Too bad you didn't win - but maybe next time.

assuming the prizes were awarded randomly, its just the luck of the draw. She didn't specifically enter hoping to win it, she just went to the party. I would not feel any ill will toward her or the organizers. Its just the way the ball bounces.
