Apple harvest. The apple crop comes in all through August. It still involves fall harvest so you can still use some of the fall colors (brown and darker greens/olive) but instead of orange or rust--use a true apple red or crimson.
Of course anything can be your theme. It doesn't have to go with the season. Though as many wives know, August is the start of football season. So you can always use team colors.

Yeah, since fall doesn't 'officially' start until near the end of September (and just this week, it is finally starting to feel like fall), I wouldn't go with a fall theme, keep it more of a summer thing. I'm also getting married in August and to tell the truth, we were actually leaning towards a bit of a sports theme, particularly since college football will be starting soon after (we planned our's so that people wouldn't miss any games because of our wedding - we're all huge sports fans). I don't know what you're into though, so can't really help you out a whole lot.

I was married in mid- august late evening; and found it hard to have a theme also. I got married on a ranch outdoors in idaho. So, I choose a late summer theme. I had dark red, brown, and cream with some golds mixed in as my colors. I choose red roses for the bridal party and dahlias for decorating the tables. because they were the cheapest. However, sunflowers, dahlias, and that sort are also in season in august. I served sandwiches, salads, it was a sort of outdoors-picnic-BBQ feel. Iced tea was a must as was cold beer.
I found that a "theme" really isn't necessary because eventually you'll start buying the colors you like and things will just fall in place.
One recommendation: dont do favors. They are a waste of money and your guests will probably not use/waste them anyway. TRUST ME! They will not notice if they are not there.

Late summer has a real beauty all its own. there are days in August when you walk outside and realize that the "red-hot" summer is giving way to that first crispness of fall, the first little bit of chill as opposed to that humid, heavy feeling. it is invigorating.
It is truly a subtle change, but it announces that life is definitely moving in a different direction--not a bad background for a wedding.
So colors. How about cream and antique rose and perhaps a green a shade darker than that of summer green. If that won't look good, then at least mix a little green into your fall combination.
Best of luck and congratulations.

Yea I would not go with the fall theme... in august everyone is still thinking summer but if you life the fall colors I would go with yellow, red, and orange. Have some kind of beach theme. Seashells and sand... anything that reminds you of summer. But if you have a fall theme in mind why not just change your date to september?!

August is a good month for a beach theme, the wedding cake could include edible sea shells. If the fall colors are what you liked, they could be included in a beach theme easy enough, corals and yellows etc...Good luck!

This is going to sound stupid...but here goes (-: I have two ideas...
1. August I usually think of the last days of summer. Your colors could be like sunset colors...dark reds, browns, pinks, oranges, etc. You know, colors you'd see when the sunsets. Like for your invites, you could get a picture of you and your fiance at the beach at sunset.
2. I also think of school going back in session during August. You could either go with the colors of your favorite team or have a red wedding. ( red schoolhouse, apples, color I usually think of when I think of school. )
Good luck!!

You could do a peridot theme, which is August's birthstone. Or, just choose something that you enjoy where it is not tied to the month.
