How many of you had never in your lifetime interacted with -- in any way -- an atheist prior to your participation on R&S?

For those that had not, did your opinion about them as people change in any way, or remain the same?

i've seen some people in here say they had never interacted with an atheist before now. i live in canada and it blew my mind! i didn't realize there were so many christians in the US

one thing i didn't know before coming here was that some people don't actually "believe" in gravity and truly think the earth is only 6000ish years old. i really had no idea people thought like that!

I'd never interacted with any. Had no pre-conceived notion other than if you are decent, I'll be decent. Seems to work. My opinion about them as people? That they are my brothers and sisters united in humanity. And a funny thing to add to this is that atheists are reasoning people (which is a lot more than I can say for many so called Christians or Muslims, Jews or Goths).... you got a lot more going for you in your search for the truth if you reason.

Of course I have. Interacted in "any way"? I think it would be near impossible to avoid interaction all together.

I've had best friends, boyfriends, enemies, neighbors, doctors, professors, kindred spirits, and brothers (okay, that one is singular) who are atheists, all before R&S.

In general, I think people are more abrasive here in real life. I try to go by individuals instead of the group, and I "know" many great atheist individuals on here. I do get ticked off by some other atheists from time to time, mainly because they make unfair generalizations.

I once was one, so I understnad many of the arguments or viewpoints, though some of the arguments have become more savvy and thought provoking. I think they are pretty much like how I used to be....
1 - I don't need to believe in a higher power or fantasy
2 - the Bible is contradictory
3 - the Bible portrays women in a negative fashion
4 - if I was born with the desire to"sin", it is really just nature's inscription on my DNA and I may act upon those desires should I choose to do so
5 - Bible was written by men and passed down thru generations inconsistently

We only have one life and it is short. A question like this can be difficult to answer, it all depends on the circumstances. If a gun was put to my head and will be put to others as well I would lie to preserve my life and possibly save the lives of others. I would have more chance of doing this if I was alive. Even if it was just my life I think I would lie. Sometimes lies are needed to be told in certain situations. You are onviously a biased christian and you cannot think out of the box, this is ok but you are wrong. Evolution is a proven fact. Your mind is shut to the reality of the world you live - evident of religious manipulation and now you are a puppet of your leaders. This is very sad but you have made this choice so be it.

I have interacted with atheists before. I never had a problem with them and actually, like Sen b said, they're a lot nicer than a lot of the one's here in R&S!

As salaamu 'alaikym, my friend.

Insha'Allah, I have known many atheist in my lifetime, most of whom either were (for those who have since passed) or are very well educated, well spoken persons of what might be considered good moral character. They have been doctors, dentist, college professors and educators, carpenters, artist, dancers, bakers, etc.

However, the majority of atheist whom one reads here on "R&S" are of an entirely different ilk. Those here seem less educated, less mature and a great deal more "less tolerant".

Insha'Allah, unfortunately, the same can be said for the majority of those who profess various religious beliefs as well. Those whom I know personally and interact with on a daily basis seem to be very wonderful persons while those here on R&S seem so entrenchced in their dogmatic positions of self righteousness and judgmental attitudes while clearly demonstarting their lack of knowledge and education that one finds oneself a bit repulsed by them.

Insha'Allah, I am very thankful for those who practice compassion, kindness and restraint, as well as tolerance and who seem to be good examples of the best of their chosen faith beliefs.

Ma'a salaam.

Ibraham, covers many of my thoughts. Prior to R&S I've interacted daily with athelist in a civil congenial manner. But with R&S----(here's where Ibraham takes over)

I've interacted with many atheists, gnostics, gays and lesbians in my life. I've only recently (last 10 years) come to appreciate the souls behind the title "gay or lesbian;" I've always found gnostics interesting to converse with, and I've never met an openly hateful atheist in my life. I'm glad of that so that I do not generalize that they are all as angry as the ones who like to troll.

I might've been interacting with them and not known since I don't ask people their religious affiliation (or lack thereof) before I open my mouth for conversation

my opinion has pretty much stayed the same
