Because of some of the people in leadership. I have gone to so many churches where they treated christianity as a business rather than a religion. People whio may not be christian see that and decide they don't want to be invovlved in that. It'sa sad thing.

YES! THIS is the very thing I knew people would begin to feel.
There have been SO many gimmicks and programs employed by the churches these past few decades, that I figured people would think it a bunch of hooey.
If the people IN the church would only tell others outside the church the truth, and only the truth, no one would think it a bogus anything.
The truth worked for centuries, why clothe it and doll it up to market it?
Tell 'em the truth about Jesus, and that's ALL we need to do.
Nothing phony, nothing artificial or added.

Pastor Billy says: probably because Protestantism in the last 400 years has commericalized it! Today anyone claiming to be "called to Ministry" can enter into what they label as "shepherding" and start their own church. What we see today from this section of Christianity is dime store novelty and comic-book antics with regards to evangelism. The bogus sell job as you put it in my experience emanates from the superficial simplification of God's revelations and ever accepting nature of Protestantism with the allow-ability of divisions within it leading one into eventual indifferentism.

Because the people who tried to sell it to you were selling religion, not the love of Christ.Religion is rules and things you cant do.The love of Jesus is something that you cant earn, and you can never lose because it is a gift.He will never take it away.It isn't bogus, and you don't have to "buy" into it.It is there and true, whether you accept it or not.

It's not. It's that this world is bad and some think that maybe there isn't any good out there. As soon as I became a Christian, I felt the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders and slowly but surely I feel I became a better person (more Christlike) and I am much happier now than I ever was.

It doesn't. If it was an obvious bogus sell job then nobody would buy it.
It is, in fact, a very effective sell job.

Because it is wholly based on subjective emotion, and not tangible evidence.
Its kinda like late night TV adds. There are hundreds of products that spend 1/2 hour telling you about problems that need to be solved, then they present you with a piece of plastic, that 'miraculously' solves the problem.
No evidence is provided, but there are always 'testimonials'.
Mrs Johnson says 'The miracle mop saved my marriage'.
Christianity and its sales approach are identical.

Because people are trying to sell it rather than just letting those who believe do so and those who don't not believe.

Because it is? I think chritianity has been perverted through out history by many different people. I wouldn't be surprised if jesus was disgusted with modern day christianity.
