to anyone who has been insulted by our faith

I apologize for any insult or wrong that any fellow Christian has done. what can I say? People are jerks, even those who believe in eternal life. Ghandi is quoted for saying that he likes the idea of Christ, but not Christians cause they dont act like Christ.
The term 'Christian' means Christ-follower but we dont live up to our name. It is true that actions speak louder than words, but in a forum like this, words are all we have... and the tone behind them.
Christians are supposed to be accepting and non judgmental. Models in the Bible are given of how we should hate sin but love the sinner.
I suppose the reason that we continue to type out heated replies might be out of frustration and un-righteous anger.
Yes, we believe that we are right about sin, heaven and hell and all that good stuff... but its no reason to get in anybody's face about it.

So im here to say a sincere sorry if we've been jerks.

Thanks. Christianity wouldn't be so bad if more people thought like you.

I don't know that Christians are supposed to be accepting and non-judgmental. Would Jesus fit that description? Sometimes. When the Pharisees brought the woman caught in adultery before Him He told them "he that is without sin, let him cast the first stone." (BTW....where was the man? both persons were to be stoned....I wonder if she was having an affair with a Pharisee?? hmmmm...)

And sometimes Jesus wasn't very "accepting" or "non-judgmental". Remember when He tore a strip off the Pharisees and called them a brood of vipers and whitewashed sepulchers full of dead men's bones? Or the time he cast the moneylenders out of the temple? Not very accepting...

I think that sometimes the situation calls for a believer to be vocal about an issue, and if that is the case go for it (just be as gentle as you can). For the most part, though, it is best for us to hold back on the "thou shalt not's" until the time is right.

Make sense?

I applaud you for this post. There are many Christians that don't follow what they "preach". I do not judge anyone here. I am not one to pass judgement. I do not agree with certain things, but I will not base their character on that, nor will I shun them for doing something or saying something that I do not agree with. I follow Christ, but I am not Christ-like. Nobody is. We are all sinners, Christians and atheists alike. It is frustrating to see those that call themselves Christians, yet they judge, they hate, and make us look bad sometimes. This was a lovely post, and God bless you.

I accept your apology, and hope you understand the same about many of us Atheists, People are People.

The problem I have with your religion though, has less to do with its followers and more to do with its teaching.

You referenced Gandhi in your question, I am sure we can both agree that He was an incredibly wonderful human, who championed freedom and honor for humanity.

According to the Christians belief system, he is being tortured in hell right now. That is one of the more serious problems with Christianity. Its the judgmental God, just as much as his judgmental followers.

If YOU were guilty of some of that behavior, then your apology is accepted. At least by me. If you're apologizing for others however and it's NOT something that you've been guilty of, I'm afraid it loses some of it's impact. The fact is that other people's actions cannot be apologized for. They either do it themselves or it's basically meaningless.

Btw, atheists, agnostics, and adherents of every religion on the planet can be just as jerky at times. But thanks for the effort.

about time someone actually came up here and said sorry, For you doing this makes you a true christian, and because I don't believe don't make me a bad person, just like just because you believe don't make you a bad person either. If everyo christian followed you then christianity wouldn't be so bad, but when they tell me I'm going to hell just because, there is something to fight about

I even have not heard of what actuality that Christains are denying...i think of all Christians comprehend the international is scarey and unhappy and imperfect and that we do stay right here on the instant..I handle your actuality on a daily basis yet i be conscious of of a actuality which you have not got here across yet....there is greater to existence than the reality you reside in.

I agree that Christians do act like jerks sometimes but we are only human. People expect Christians to act "perfect", there was only one perfect person and he died for not one but all, I would like to say that I am sorry for not being a perfect Christian, but I am trying to do the best I can at what God has given me, and that is a forgiving heart. Once again, we are only human and therefore should not act like Gods, but be God like and follow in his footsteps.

RIGHT ON.
Not many people are true Christians, I think...
Or else I wouldn't hear Christians every day say
"I hate gay people, lets go kill them all!"
it's sad, but there are some good Christians
or at least people who believe in God out there!

You're apologizing to the people who would feed you your own entrails if they could. The Atheists here are laughing at you because you fell to your knees for them. Go join them. Christ our Savior doesn't need fake followers who work against him.

All you suggested is that you are not a jerk, but that has no bearing on the fact that most of you are jerks. Therefore, your premise that anti-christians should hear is completely irrelevant and misguided.
