Fasting has little to do with the physical act of depriving yourself of food and everything to do with the condition of your heart at that time of "suffering." You can fast anything too, it doesn't need to be food. If that were the case than Hypoglycemic people would be far removed from God...clearly not the case. Fast something that is important to you. For example, go the whole week without watching TV. During the moments you would be doing this, use this time for prayer, mediating on the Word and reflecting on your personal walk with God. The quality of the fast is dependant upon you. Be honest with your time. Don't fast TV, focus on your faith for half an hour and then run off with a friend to hang out. This is to be truly dedicated time, where you are alone and are personally seeking God. Remember to focus on the relationship aspect of God. Perhaps focus by reading the Book of John, as this gospel is the most intimate with God. I would also focus on how you pray. Don't open with what you are needing or wanting, God already knows this. Focus on His glory, His love, His patience and faithfulness. Focus on lfting Him up for all that He has done. This is a chance for you to retrospective about all the little and great things He has done for you in your life, so give Him credit where credit is due. Also, focus on being open to what He wants for you after you have laid your burdens down before Him. Don't try to superimpose your will over His. hope this helps.

Jesus said his believers would engage in the discipline of fasting once He had ascended. And they fasted prior to the coming of the Holy Spirit. Also the Antioch church fasted prior to choosing missionaries - they chose Paul and Barnabas.
I heard somewhere that it was a normal practice of many in the early church to fast 2 days a week. These were probably whole days fasts - eg no food right through the day, and no food until breakfast the day after.

That should reduce your blood sugar an make you nice and light headed.
Try repetitive changing and dancing too, those will help you see things.
Going for a spin in a centrifuge will do it too. As that blood drains from your brain and it starts lacking oxygen and sugar you will see all sorts of visions.
So will a whole load of different chemicals. However most of those are illegal.
Flagellation is a traditional way to get the endorphins running sufficiently to 'see' god, but it can be messy.
So, just why does an omnipotent, all present god need you to stress out your body for you to 'see' him?
Edit:
If your kids wanted to show how much they loved you, would them starving themselves two days a week be a good way to show it?

Knock gods door? I don't understand. You want to get his attention? Do you think he's distracted in some way? That he's not paying proper attention to you? Fasting can be useful as means of cleansing the body physically. It doesn't knock on anyone's door however, except perhaps the doctors door if you fast too much.

No , if you want to loose weight go to Jenny Craig or start an exercise program. If you stave yourself for two days a week you would eat more on the other days creating obesity. See a doctor before you plan any diet.

I don't think it matters what days, the point is to do it. They way I see it is that sacrafice is the primary way in which we show someone we love them. Fasting is a form of sacrafice for God, and also reminds us of our frailty, and thus dependence, on Him.

I have found that fasting is only usefull if it is done for at least three days - no food, juice, tea, or anything except water

i don;'t know, but i doubt that not eating twice a week will get you closer to god or whatever you are trying to do. You might as well stay up for 72 hours straight, it might help too

Are you saying that you want to get closer to God?
Fasting is cool and all but.....all you need to do is talk to Him in prayer.
