It depends on the guy. As well as the woman.
How long have you been dating? Are you the assertive one?
are you bossy?
Does he do what you tell him. Does he like it when you're assertive?
try to ask him questions. Done the right way, it is easy to get into a mans mind (although you might not find much there in terms of emotional/feelings context).
do you force him or make him do certain things in bed? Does he comply? Have you ever tried smaking his butt while in the bedroom? Some little clues like this can be the indicator of a submissive male.

you should definetely discuss it or have a joke about it first.... i myself am into it , and am wishing my girl would bring it up! just throw it out there , its healthy to talk about sexual desires... otherwise just slowly start taking charge in sex and see how he reacts.
