My 7 month old boston terrier pup keeps getting worms. He had them about a month and a half ago and I gave him worm medicine, and they were not apparent again til a few days ago (when I noticed them in his poop). So now I have given him the medicine again.
My question is, how does he keep getting them when he's hardly ever around other dogs? Also, how can I prevent this from happening again?

It depends on the type of worm. Most can be gotten from digging and licking in the dirt.
Tape worms a re different. They are part of the cycle for fleas and if you only treat the worm part and not the flea, he will keep reinfesting himself every time he chews for fleas.
If you are having a really hard time getting rid of them, take your dog and a sample of his poop that still has the worms in it( they leave when the poop dries out) to the vet. The vet will help you out by looking at the worms and at the dog.
The worming meds that you can buy from a pet store don't do much to help with tape worms. The vet can give you something much better, that is specific to the type of worm you have.
Good luck, I had problems getting rid of the fleas and worms in my cats. It took me almost 8 months of treatments to get rid of them.

First you should take him to the vet. Not all store bought meds will work on all worms. Which is most likely why they keep showing up.Your dog can get worms a number of ways. One could be a bite from a bug, in the sand outside. From eating something outside, like garbage, a dead animal or a puddle.

If you are using over the counter worming medicine, it may not be effective against the type of worms your pet is getting. You need to have a fecal sample checked at your veterinarian's office, and then given the correct treatment for that particular worm. If you walk your dog in a dog friendly area, he may be picking up worms from other dog's feces. Also, if you don't clean up his feces immediately, he can reinfect himself.

What kind of worms do you keep seeing and treating for??? If they are tapeworms, they get them from fleas and you need to treat for fleas then tapeworm.
If it is roundworms, the dog may be eating cat poop, or reinfecting himself in your yard.

definite you may desire to head to the vet and take a stool pattern with you ASAP. additionally area of ordinary care is to soak up a stool pattern once or twice a 12 months and also have a heartworm try executed as quickly as a 12 months, the vet will draw blood. there is alot extra to the well being of a canine than ingesting, pooping and peeing.

Two ways that I know of are from swallowing fleas and eating dead animals. Those two are facts, ask your vet! If anybody can provide more FACTS, I certainly will be interesting in reading.
