I work in the military and my job requires me to be out in the sun 8-12 hours a day depending on the shift. Since I'm in the military I'm required to wear a cover or 'hat'. This results in a very goofy tan line on my head and face. And being that I also shave my head it really makes the tan line stick out. Basically I've come to the conclusion that I want to fix this and get a membership at a tanning salon. But I have a few concerns

For one I'm a pretty pale guy. I can tan over time, but I burn first. I've been burnt many times during my life but have never gotten skin cancer, but I don't want to risk it by tanning on a regular basis. Also I've heard that tanning can speed up the aging process and that is the last thing I want. But this tan line is really putting a damper on my appearance so I don't know if the risk is worth it or not. How many times a week should I go to be the safest, but still keep a good tan? And what kind of creams and or lotions should I use?

Good you have concerns about tanning and implications thereof - so why bother?

What about a fake tanner to help even out the appearance? Like a bronzer....

If you decide the fake stuff wont do, and you want to go tanning, your concerns are real ones for sure, but everyhting in moderation is managable. I would start out tanning very slowly (perhaps a couple minutes less than even the girl working at the salon suggests. Defiinalty use a tanning product, for a new tanner that is just starting out I would suggest Extreme by Supre, or alternativly try Sheer Wisom by Designer Skin (both are super moisturizing and great for begginer tanners, while being sutible for sensitive skin. They will speed up the tanning process without more time in the bed, which is a good thing..... more tan with less risky exposure). Use a moisturizer after you tan for sure as well, to help protect the moisutre levels in your skin(which ever one you use at home should be fine, or yuo could grab an anti-aging one). You are alkready in the sun alot, so I would ust the indoor tanning only as an evener.

start off slow... go twice a week at first to get a base started - make sure you use the lotions they have at the salon! - once you have a good tan going you can go 3 times a week, but then slow it back down to maybe once a week just to keep the tan but it wont make you look orange... also, since it seems your main concern is your face/head... some tanning salons have just face tanners... that would be a good option too.. but good luck...

also, when your asking them for a lotion, use a 'bronzer'... never use a 'tingle'.. that will really burn you.

If you go to the tanning salon, the rest of your body will get tan. Your head and face MIGHT not even get tan. If they do, they'll still be lighter than the rest of your body. I don't suggest going to a tanning salon for that. You should use a self-tanner instead. If you really want to, go to a tanning salon and ask them which is the best self tanner to use.

Yes it does age you faster, it can give the skin a leather look and feel over time, and it is best not to go at all, to avoid the chances of sin cancer, if you have to swim or go to the lake or even put suntan lotion on the parts that are exposed to keep both even. i would rather have a goofy tan line than a huge gross pink scar because they keep having to take out peices of skin cancer.

I think u should start off very slow, that way you won't burn bad, because that's not good for your skin either. Go about twice a weak for about 8 minutes to start you out. If you go for too long at one time, you will get burnt, and you will be misserable. You need to get used to it first b/4 u start going for like 15-30 minutes at a time.

Hi get some Johnson's holiday legs lotion or the Avon satin glow (available in fair to medium and medium to dark) you can build up the "tan" over several days until you get the effect you want ,then, top it up every couple of days to keep it.this is far safer than tanning beds.

start up off with 6 minutes in a tanning mattress/sales area. in case you burn handle it with Aloe. as quickly as the burn has healed flow lower back for yet another 6 minutes. once you cease burning at 6 minutes then advance it sluggish to eight minutes. once you cease burning at 8 minutes advance to ten, etc. verify you moisturize after each tanning consultation and drink a great number of water to maintain your dermis looking healthful & hydrated.
