He could have. There could be no purpose to any process if God is omnipotent. Whatever benefit the experience serves could have been instilled without it.

Because suffering, believe it or not, has a number of good uses. It teaches us endurance and gives us strength, and that is what suffering was put here for. It also teaches us to appreciate what we have, and that cannot be as effective any other way. I guarantee you that Job is not ungrateful for the lessons that God taught him, because people who have as much faith in God as he did learn to appreciate suffering in their lives, and look back upon it as something they could not have done without. Can you imagine what kind of person you would be if you never once lost anything in your life? You would go through life expecting everything to be handed to you, whether intentionally or not, and be oh, so disappointed when you finally didn't get it. How could you learn to accept the bad with the good, if everything was always good? It made Job much stronger, and a better person, and God actually did him a favor. But if you do not share these views on life, then you will not see it this way, nor could you understand it. God bless.

"It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.
"If thy children have sinned against him, And he hath delivered them into the hand of their transgression; "
If Job's sons had sinned, and renounced God, why would He save them from death?
