From the Bronx perspective, Throgs Neck is a nice section and has a lot of shops along East Tremont Avenue. However, getting to the subway takes a LOOOONG time since the nearest station (Westchester Square - #6) is about 30 minutes away via BX40 or BX42 (using Harding Avenue as a reference)

Both sides of the Throgs Neck Bridge are nice neighborhoods. On the Queens side is Bay Terrace, richy area. Quickest way to Manhattan from the Queens side is LIRR about 35 minute ride.

Either side of the Throgs Neck Bridge are good places to live. On the Queens side, you would be in Bayside, which is a reasonably affluent community & on the Bronx side, you would be in Throgs Neck which includes Edgewater Park, Country Club, and a couple of yacht clubs.

In both locations, there are no NYC train stations. In the Bronx, the closest station would be the #6 train @ Pelham Bay Park, which you would need to take a bus to. In Queens, the closest train station is Main Street in Flushing, which you would need to take a bus to get to. The only other option in Queens would to take the Long Island Rail Road on Bell Blvd.

By LIRR, it would take about 45 minutes to get to Penn Station.
