Personally, I think the 60 gb is the better buy because it has more.
The 60 gb has 4 USB ports, which means you can connect more things to it.
The 60 gb has the emotion engine, which was in the PS2, so the 60 gb can play almost all PS2/PSX games because it has the hardware.
The 60 gb has flash drives, so you can upload pictures, songs, etc. from devices that don't use USB for storage (ie, Sony products).
The 40 gb only has 2 USB ports, which may be enough for some.
The 40 gb only has backward compatibility for PSX games, but not PS2 games.
The 40 gb doesn't have flash drives, so if you have a digital camera that don't use USB flash drives, you can't upload your pictures to the PS3.
They both have Wi-Fi out of the box.

if you already have a playstation 2 then i would buy the 40gb since even though its not backwards compatible you could still use your ps2. also the 40gb is cheaper and still has wifi. only down side is that the 40 gb only has 2 usb slots instead of 4 on the 60gb.

60GB is better, because:
1). It supports PS2 games (US version is the best - it has Emotion Engine chip to deal with that issue, euro version is good too, but it run old games on software emulation). 40GB version doesn't support PS2 games at all. Only PS1 games can be played.
2). It has 4 USBs (40GB has only 2).
3). It has memory slots (40GB doesn't have that)
Both versions have wi-fi.
P.S. If you want 60GB - get it now, Sony won't make them in the future.

i does not purchase the 40GB. yet once you do no longer desire each and every function then flow forward (i'm the fashion of guy who buys the terrific possible). purely be attentive to that they're going to stop the 60GB on the tip of the 12 months. particular, each and every PS3 version has wireless. on line is powerful. I have not have been given any theory why Sony's on line play gets knocked plenty. the factor of on line is to play others on line - Sony does that and its servers do no longer lag... like yet another gadget's servers.

get the 60 gigabyte the 40 gigabyte will not have the ability to play Ps2 games.
