i saw on oprah; dr. oz said that liquid diets are the same as doing a regular diet with solid food, his suggestion was to start on a liquid diet and then continue with a regular diet. start with natural shakes, such as fruits and vegetables. i hope this is helpful and good luck!

I know some frat guys that were on a liquid diet for 4 years. They didn't lose too much weight... :)

as for the 100 cals a day, good luck with that. You will lose about 5-10 lbs of needed muscle. Just keep drinking water...

Not very much. Your body will shoot straight into starvation and weight loss would quickly stop. The problem with crash dieting is that the body will rebel very quickly and shut down to defend itself from starvation. Then even if you switch to lower calorie eating plan your progress may become very slow on nonexistent. So it ends up that you're actually working against yourself. The body starts to break down muscle tissue to feed itself while slowing your metabolism to a crawl to conserve your fat as a last resort fuel to keep you alive. You hair will start to thin and fall out, your nails will become brittle and your skin will start to look awful...just some of the first signs of starvation. The really sad part is that your heart can suffer tremendous damage as well as your other major body organs. Some of it might not be repairable as you get older. your bones will suffer long term damage and this reckless behavior may come back to haunt you if you decide to try and have a family one day...I know you said you know how bad this is for you and you don't want to hear it..but this is for the other misguided young people that might think this could help them in some way...

Don't do it. I know it is tempting.... I used to take extreme measures to lose weight all the time. I'm not going to tell you how "bad" it is, but I am going to tell you that it doesn't work and sets you up for weight gain in the future.

The reason it sets you up for weight gain is because this type of program often creates a cycle of unhealthy patterns, such as binge eating, emotional eating, and an increased appeal for food, which all lead to weight gain in the long run. I have been researching dieting and weight loss for seven years and restrictive dieting, pills, supplements, even rigid exercise plans usually don't work in the long-run. Most people (99% in fact) who lose weight in such manners gain it all back and more within 5-10 years (depending on the study you look at it is even shorter).

A few questions to consider in eliminating your weight struggle forever....

Do you eat to numb yourself out from problems with food?

Do you binge eat?

In general, do you eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full?

Do you eat for emotional or external reasons (because you are happy, depressed, stressed, lonely, dissatisfied with yourself, because food is there, because there is nothing else to do, because it is fun to eat with friends, because it is a reward, because you can't waste food, etc.)

Would it be possible for you to feel good about yourself right now and as you are losing? A very important component of losing weight is to first work on self-esteem at your current weight otherwise it is hard to stay motivated.

I work with teenagers and young adults who struggle with weight and body-esteem everyday. I help them to accept themselves and to learn to eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full. For most people, this is the only way for permanent success in the weight loss struggle.

the body expends more energy digesting whole foods than it does liquids. so the thermogenic effect from eating would result in a greater elevation of the metabolic rate than would drinking the same amount of calories.

Why bother eating anything? Why not a zero cal diet? They both drop kick your metabolism...They both cause fatigue...they both would kill you if you lived like that for life...
