Sometimes something drastic has to be done to get someone out of denial. If they can go about daily living without something changing then they assume nothing is wrong. On your part, all you can really do is stop making excuses for their behavior, stop covering up whatever is happening in that home. I would definitely call social services and have an investigation done. It doesn't necessarily mean that the children will be taken away. They may just order them to go to meetings at first. If the children are taken from the home the first place they will try to be placed is within the family at another home. If the situation is as bad as you say it is then the best thing you can do is to get someone else involved to expose the problem. Things may seem worse at first but chances are they will only get better from there.

As stated call protective services, explain your concerns. They may take the children of they may force the parents to complete services.
Even with family members you should report concerns. I used to work investgations for protective services and family members were the best source of information and the most help.

If the kids are in danger, then yes you should get them away from the in-denial alcoholic. There isn't much you can do about the alcoholic until he comes to his senses and decides he wants to be helped. By all means, report what you've seen!
Good luck.

What's this "Can't report it because it is a family member." garbage! How would you feel if he killed someone while he's drunk? If he killed or injured another "family member" in a drunken rage! Alcoholism is a disease, and the sooner he gets help, the better everyone will be!
Call Social Services NOW and report this!!

u do need to call human services and u dont have to tell them who u are. even if they arent hurting the children the are hurting them mentaly with the yelling this may turn in to worse in the long run. if they come check them out that maybe a rude awaking and they will seek help on their own. i know i would do whatever it takes to keep my children!! this maybe the the push they need to get help. good luck and i know its hard they have groups like aa for family members who live with ppl who drink this could help too even if the family member that drinks wont go to AA to help themselfs.

There is no way you can make someone get help if they don't want it. You can report it anonamously though by contacting your local health and human welfare office. You do not need to give anything more than the info.

"In denial alcoholic"? You need to be absolutely sure that the person in question is in fact an alcoholic and not just base it on speculation and assumptions.

i doubt the kids will get taken away, if your in UK, coz basically the kids have to be half dead before they bother doing anything, but they will get investigated and that may give them a kick up the ***!!
