communism, child labour, child slavery, global warming, sexism, poverty and all the other crap that's going on there.
I heard that women there can only have one child and they hate female babies.

China is doing about lots of changes but still not much freedom in China. For hating female babies, this is because of the family name (surname) system as only male can inherit the family surname and past it down to the next generation and so on. Female is a liability as they are called pei qian huo (items that cannot sell for money !!!). They cannot carry on the family line and they can only carry others when they married !!!

Communism: the Chinese people have never known anything other than totalitarian rule - the Emperors for thousands of years and then a Communist govenment for the past 50. They have never had democracy and they tried it once which was a complete disaster because most of the candidates were assassinated and it was all highly corrupt. Communism seems to be working.
Child Labour and Slavery: I've never heard about it. Don't believe everything you read in the papers...
Global warming: China is roughly 100 years behind the rest of the Western world industrally. Britain was churning out just as many (probably more) fumes during the Victorian era.
China didn't seem too sexist to me, it's changed a lot in the past decade.
The one child law applies to everyone, not just women. Female children weren't an ideal first (or only) child and this meant couples would try again until they had a boy to carry on the family name but more importantly, grow up and care for them when they're old. When I was in China, I saw more girls than boys, so I think this mentality is changing.
It's not as bad as the press says, sometimes radical measures are needed to run a population of such a huge size.

Hi, China is not alone in part of globle warming. do you know that america has the highest polluter by capita in the world? They are responsible for 40% of carbon dioxide emission in the world and they refuse to ratify the treaty called the kyoto protocol to decrease emission of carbon dioxide.

China is a very big country, i do agree parts of it are very undevelop and poor, but there are big and beautiful cities that are very well develop with high rise building too.

sexism and hating female babies is true, however, it is only a issue in the countryside farmlands, they need males for the hard labours and work, and if it's a daughter who is going to marry off by 20, who is there to help the parents to work in the field?
In the cities, there is no sexism, females and male babies will be loved ever so equally, and quite a lot of people prefers girls as they are more obedient than boys. i've heard about friends complaining that they prefer a girls because more obedient and cute. :) you won't see much housewife too, most of them will be working as the job opportunities are fair and you will only be judge by your competence not gender. don't just pick up small parts of information and assume the whole place is like that.

Child Poverty in USA - the facts

25% of New Yorkers are children.
762,000 children live in poverty.
181 babies are born into poverty each day.
10,000 children are homeless.
a number of these children turn to drug trafficking and some of them will be shoot to death by the age of 16.
although, child labour are high in china, as you can see, china is not alone in child labour. The people there are also trying to change it. Do you think these is what they want?
I worked as a teacher in china, we brought classes of city kid to the countryside areas, the city kids where sad about the poverty and did whatever they can to help, one even came up to me and said 'sorry this is all i have,' and give me RMB100 which was his whole months allowance. :)
what i was most touch about the countryside kid was that they all have the same wonderful aspiration, to study hard and earn alot of money so that their parents can enjoy. :)

These are problem faced in many societies, instead of trying to point a finger to others, we should be doing a part to help.
:)
