I saw a man who had tied a dog and was dragging it on the road - in India. He was with a big bunch of people mostly men. They were dragging the dog and beating it with sticks and it was yelping, screaming in a fit. I don't know what was the exact reason except someone told me it had rabies or it was some sort of cult worship and hence they were doing this. I could not do anything. There were so many men, I was alone and the dog was in a dying stage. It was horrendous.

The second was a lone pup on the road. I brought it home and fed it for a week before I organized the blue cross to come get her and keep her. I could not keep afford to keep this pup since we already have one and my dad will not agree. Thankfully they came and took the pup to the shelter and saved her life.

I have even avoided people or spoken to them very harshly on the road for their cruel treatment of cows. They beat them very hard and make them walk for miles and miles with heavy cargo, no water and less food.

India has lots of lone dogs. The scavengers of our nation but not many pay heed and most are cruel to them. The government does barely nothing to neuter them or help them. Privately run shelters by Maneka Gandhi and some other private helpers have done alot to make this nation aware of their pathetic plights. But nothing much is done. The dogs are tough, wild and very very loyal more so than pedigrees. Its very sad to see how they suffer in India. Rich people (Not all but most of the rich) do not want to have mongrels as their pets but its the poor who nurture and care for them. I have had one mongrel the most faithful of the lot. Her name was Lassie. They are not very pretty looking but have a heart of gold.

I work at an animal shelter, and I've seen a lot of animal cruelty in my time there. I've seen dogs come in attached to chains and muzzled. Terrified for their lives and covered in scars. Obviously used for fights. I've seen cats come in some have been shot, some set on fire. I've seen animals missing limbs, or the have had their limbs broken by cruel people. Sometimes, sick or dead animals that have been beaten and neglected are found outside of our shelter in the morning when we get there. It's horrible, but somebody needs to take these animals in and help them in whatever way possible. And that's what I love about my job. And yes, when I see animal cruelty taking place, I will do everything in my power to stop it.

I love animals, would never do anything cruel to animals, and if I saw anyone being cruel to an animal, I would speak up.

That being said, I agree with Mohamed ( another person who answered this questioon), that our first responsibility is to not be cruel to human beings ourselves, then to try to stop cruelty to human beings, then worry about the animals. If you have the time and energy to do all at once, OK.

Many animal "rights" activists ascribe more "rights" to animals than to humans. For example; many "animal rights" groups look on the North American wolf as a noble creature and that no one should ever harm one for any reason. The wolf, of course, is a predator that hunts and kills other animals. Sometime, in fights for dominance, the males kill each other.

Yet they say that no human has the right to kill an animal for food; that hunting and killing prey is OK for an animal, but if a human does the same thing, they are the skum of the earth!

You have said that you are a Christian, and I believe you. I know you have not said that there is anything wrong with eating meat. I only mention this because it relates to the general topic of the question you have asked.

From the Bible, we know that Jesus ate fish and that he ate lamb at the Passover Seder. If Jesus, was against the eating of animals, he would not only said so (which he didn't), he would also have not done this himself.

Therefore: unnecessary cruelty to animals - no; hunting of animals as long as the hunter eats them - yes; eating animals if the person is Jewish, Christian, Muslim, or atheist - yes.

There was a man outside of my town that had 2 dogs. He had them locked in the house for 7 years. they never got out even to relieve themselves. He would leave can after can of Alpo dog food laying around. He never cleaned the dog waist. The neighbors heard his wife screaming from the basement. She had been locked down there for a week with no food. When the authorities went to go through the house there was a four foot high pile of feces below which was the body of one of the dogs. The other dog was a cockier with a sever thyroid problem and 3 inches of matted fur. Her nails were so long they had turned into cork screws. The groomer I worked with at the time volunteered to groom her for free. She was a very sweet dog but there was just too much trauma and she gave up a few days latter. The man and woman both are in the local secured mental hospital. sad story and sad ending. Sorry

It is nothing that I have seen personally, but the story of what the NFL player Michael Vick and his friends did in the dog fighting ring that they had and also killing and beating dogs that did not perform was just disgusting. Like electrocuting them in tubs of water and hanging them, just boggles my mind that any human could be that depraved to do that to an animal.

i work at a no kill animal shelter in the states and i can tell you stories that would blow alot of peoples minds. its unreal how so many people treat animals-pets or live stock even game. im not against those who hunt legally or those farmers who have animals that work for them or are income for them-given that they are treated with respect as well.
i have 2 aussie sheperds and 1 border collie plus a 4 year old little boy-they are all my children. my pets are my pets but get treated as well as my son but no better (they still need to know that humans are above them on the totum pole).
all of gods living creatures deserve respect given they havent abused the rule (humans). my fellow co-workers and i believe if we can help those who need it the most whether they are adopted or not, then we are doing our purpose on earth.
you may want to concider getting involved yourself. its a hard look at reality but it teaches you more compassion believe it or not. you will feel better about yourself knowing you have helped all you can.

Puppy found covered in pipe glue, eyes glued shut, legs smashed
July 20
A 16-week old black male Labrador retriever covered in PVC pipe glue was discovered in Gautier across from the Singing River Grocery. The animal's eyes were sealed shut with glue, and his mouth, throat and ears were also saturated. His hind legs were also fractured in several places. Animal cruelty is a misdemeanor crime in Mississippi and carries a fine on a case-by-case basis. According to officials in the Gautier Police Department, the crime can carry up to six months of jail time if it is extremely cruel. The officials also said their policy on animal cruelty was to file a report, find the guardians of the animal and file charges if necessary.

Dog skinned alive, run over twice
Dec. 14
A sheepdog belonging to a Navajo elder was "skinned alive, run over twice," and tossed next to a campsite. "We have taken pictures and are reporting this terrorist act to the proper authorities. This is plain brutal and an intent to intimidate the camp," said Lori Goodman of Diné Care. "The elders put a lot of value into training their sheepdogs and an act such as this is elder abuse." The sheepdog belonged to Alice Gilmore, who was in her 80s.

Dogs shot, skull crushed; cats skinned
April 1
Butler County dog warden officials had a stern warning for perpetrators of animal cruelty: it will not be tolerated. "It's just sickening what's going on," said Kim Sterling, Butler County deputy dog warden, about the rash of animal cruelty cases in the county. "We will prosecute for animal cruelty." Starting in the first week of April, officials said they received reports from Hamilton, Morgan Township and St. Clair Township of dogs being shot and cats being skinned. "In (Morgan Township) we've had a Labrador shot that had to be euthanized because of its injuries," Sterling said. "A woman's cat was shot and it died as a result of the injuries. We are pursuing each and every case as it comes in," she said. "Animal cruelty is something we are not going to tolerate in Butler County."

yeah ... i too have witnessed cruelty to animals ....like stray dogs ,cats etc..... but the worst was when a snake cropped up in our society ... as usual all the workers panicked at its sight and wanted to kill it by putting it in fire ... as these people were illiterate i had to convince not to harm it them by being one of them ... i told them that a snake dosent always show itself unless it has been asked by the almighty ( give darshan )so we should not harm it ,at the same time it should also not be allowed to be in the society compound as it is dangerous for kids ... we then with a lot of effort and help with many trapped it in a gunny bag and released it in a mangrove near our place ..... i was happy that i had convinced them ...

I have witnessed these people that use guns and arrows to kill innocent bears, deers, and moose. I once saw a deer grazing in the green grass not harming anyone fall to ground shaking violently. Then witnessed these men take a rifle and shoot the deer in the head.
