We are moving across country and wondering if laying the tv down instead of keeping it upright would hurt it in any way during a 2000 mile move

No, as long as you pad it carefully top and bottom, and don't put anything on top of it.

Make sure the load is secure. A piece of your cargo could shift and hit the TV, so be extra sure everything's secure.

Happy move!

It would be better to have the TV upright. As in transit a pixel or two may fall out. All companies that delivery TV's advise always to keep upright.

No, that in itself won't affect it. However LCD screens are very sensitive to bumps and vibrations, especially if you are going to put this in a moving truck. You might end up with a ruined TV if you don't cushion it. I'd wrap it in a lot of blankets/pillows, and don't stack anything on it!
