A family friend will sing one song during our wedding ceremony -- should we get a boutonniere for him? He'll be wearing his own outfit (not a tux).

It is a considerate gesture for someone who is signing at your wedding. I saw go for it.

It is of course a very nice gesture for you to do so. But I would think you may want to talk to him first? Since he is wearing his own outfit and not a tux, he may think it is a little over done if he pins on a boutonniere....

Depends on how many you are getting. If you are just getting a bout for your best man and father--then it is not appropriate. But if--like me--you wanted to honor a lot of people and were ordered a lot of corsages, than why not?

I ordered corsages for both aunts that threw me a shower, my husbands aunt and cousin that threw another one. Mothers, grandmothers and bouts for Grandfathers and both fathers. Plus of course all the groomsmen and ushers. Something like 11 bouts. After all that, one more doesn't really matter.

But my sister is having a very small wedding party--maybe not even a MOH or Best Man. Her groom doesn't have a father, so only my father is getting one. In that case it would look weird if a family friend had one, when even close family didn't.

I had a family friend sing for my wedding, and I did give him a boutonniere, kind of as a "thank you" in addition to the gift card we gave him. It looked really nice too, when he was singing in front of the church.

Of course, buy him a boutonniere - you are talking peanuts as far as the cost and it would be a lovely gesture. I would also give him a gift or gift certificate if not paying him directly. I sang for several people's weddings and would have appreciated such a gesture.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

It would be nice. It is just a good way to show your appreciation for those who helped you out.
