95% of women get french manicures for their wedding. yes this looks classy and nice, and i have had mine done like this just because....
however, i am getting married in january and don't want to 1. spend the money on a french manicure (although i know you can buy kits, or wear glue-ons) and 2. want to do something a little different.
the most simple and elegant way i think to do this, is to go against the norm and just nicely paint my fingernails and toenails. but what color?? any suggestions?
(ps. my dress is ivory and champagne, the flowers are a mixture of deep purples, reds, oranges, and a touch of cream.. and my hair is auburn)

Try a champagne colored nail polish with iridescent undertones.

Buy a color that matches your lipstick and compliments your flowers. I would suggest going with a deeper red and stay away form purple tones since your hair is auburn.
I had a french manicure for my wedding, but I had gold dust tips so it wasn't the typical french manicure. I like the idea of having colored tips. You should go get it done and see if you like it!
You can also have a lighter color and then get some nail art, which would be very cool and unique!
Good luck!

A nice sheer pink is the best choice. Essie has some very nice ones- check Ballet Slippers or Mademoiselle. Those colors do not show chips the way darker colors do, so even if you have a chip no one will notice.
How much more is a french manicure where you live, that you don't want to spend the money? It's only $4 more at my salon! Not trying to talk you into it- I think french is too common these days.

I'd definitely go with the champagne color. Perhaps latte? Something metallic though not too shiny. Those overshiny metallics just look weird.
I know that purple is really in right now but I think in 5 yrs you'd look back and think you were trying to be some punk rocker rebel on your wedding day.
My wedding colors were turquoise and coral. All my bridesmaids got a bright coral and when I saw theirs, I decided to do mine the same color. What color are your bridesmaids dresses? Any thought on what color they will get their nails painted?
Instead of a bridesmaids luncheon, my aunt took us all to get manicures. It was great and since we had like so many people--the whole salon was filled--we got a discount rate. But at the very least I think it looks nice to buy a bottle of polish and have all the bridesmaids do the same nail polish color. You may decide you love that color as well.

While many brides do choose the french manicure, it's perfectly fine to go with a color! I would go with a classic red because it's traditional yet sexy. Remember that the photographer will probably take a closeup of your hand and your husband's hand w/ the rings on.....so how your fingernails look is quite important. If you're not going to go for the french manicure, I would still get a professional to do the painting. It's very difficult to apply nail polish with that perfect professional look.

If you want to be noticed, go with a red. If you want to keep it subtle, go with a neutral color.
As noted, you don't have to do pink/white or beige/white for a french manicure. I've seen lots of color combinations.
Although you don't want to spend the money, I'd really recommend you go to a salon and get your nails done! A mani/pedi are only around $25, and if you know of a salon in the area, they often have specials on Mondays and/or Tuesdays as it is slower so you could get your nails done at a discount a few days ahead.

Go ahead and get a regular manicure. They don’t cost as much as a French manicure. That way, you know your nails will look perfect. Also, when I get my nails done at the salon- the polish seems to stay on so much longer and they don’t chip as quickly. I think an orangey-red, brick red, or brownish-red would look great with your colors and with you being auburn.

For your finger nails I would go with something subtle like a frosted pink or something of that nature. You do not want to draw attention away from your flowers. For you toes though, pick a nice daring color. I used the same color as my bridesmaids' dresses for my toes (a deep red).

When I got married, I had red toes and pale pink fingernails. Do something like that, wear a bright or dark color on your toes and a lighter version of that color on your nails.
