I'm not a Christian, but I had to address this question based on the fact that I have wondered that very same thing. I don't understand why anyone would want to wear what essentially is the instrument of execution for a period of time when Jesus Christ was murdered. If it had been the twentieth century that instrument of murder would have been any number of things ranging from a firing squad, a noose, gas chamber or the electric chair. You wouldn't want to see any of those things dangling from an individuals neck on a chain or string. I wonder how Christ feels about that particular representation stemming from mankind.

Why type of cross ? Is it the one with Jesus on it ( takes away the ressurection , symbolizing that he is still on the cross and that he is still paying for our sins ) or the one without it ?
If it's the one without it , it's alright , I think that if a person wants to wear it they can wear it but a person shouldn't put their trust in a cross , an object , but in Jesus , though it is a very important symbol in Christianity
And to answer correctly some do , some don't , that's a choice and there's nothing wrong with it but remember that wearing a cross doesn't define or make you a Christian

It is strange because
a) the cross is a pagan symbol
and
b) the Romans did not crucify people on crosses but used a T shaped construction.
The cross was introduced as one of many means of reconciling aganism and Christianity and thus helping the conversion of Pagans to Christianity. Much like the date for Christmas and the symbology that goes with it or the Easter festival and the sysmbology attached to it. Many Pagan symbols have been incorporated into Christianity.

Personally I don't wear one.
But the majority of people wear it because it's a symbol of the sacrifice Jesus made. This symbolism has a basis in Scripture because Paul used the stauros (cross or torture stake) of Jesus to signify Jesus' sacrifice. In one scripture (I'll edit later and cite the verse), he even personifies the stauros by speaking of 'the blood of the" stauros.
In another scripture, he refers to the message about Jesus as the message of the "stauros" - in other words, the "stauros" summed up the message they were preaching - Jesus' sacrificial death.
He also said that the message of the stauros was foolishness to those who didn't believe. Even today there are those who believe in Jesus and his sacrifice, but do not understand the symbolism of what the stauros meant to those early Christians.
I find crosses unnecessary, as well as symbols. But symbols aren't 'evil'. The Bible is full of symbolism. A symbol isn't the same thing as an idol, unless a person directs worship to it. Wearing a cross as jewelry is not "worship" any more than displaying a treasured photograph is idolatry.

Because Christians believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins.
Therefore the cross is an important symbol in Christianity, as well as some other religions and groups.

I am a Christian who does not wear a cross because for me it would be like hanging an electric chair around my neck.
I do not need it to remind me of the sacrifice of Christ. My relationship and fellowship with Him through the Word of God reminds me of that. He was on the cross for me, to bear my sins and when He said "It is Finished", I believe that when He died, I died, when He arose, I arose a new creation in Him, no more cross. "It is Finished". I glory in the cross of Christ because without it I would not be a child of God.

I don't wear a cross personally.
I do have one hanging off my rear-view mirror.
The reason is because the cross is a symbol of the cross Jesus died on to save us from our sins.

Just as a gentle reminder to all who look at it that Jesus did die for US-mere humans, so that we may have everlasting life. And there are times when a person who feels 'lost' has approached me looking for words of comfort, and I see they are looking at my cross, like, "Now here is someone I can trust to confide in" even though they don't know me. Remember, too, that for all things good, to God goes the glory, not to any of us; He uses us to spread the gospel and help lead others to peace.

To remind them that Judas died on the cross for their sins. But to them it is Jesus(PBUH*) who died. Of course Muslims know that isn't true. But that is why Christians have the cross necklace.

I wear a cross to symbolize the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us to cleanse us of our sins and forgive us no matter what. I'm pretty sure thats why other christians wear it too.
