This is the word on the street. What do you think of the war-profiteering of Blackwater?

Don't you think we should institute the draft instead?

The word on the street being that are nearly 100,000 private security agents working for US interests there. They wear uniforms identical to the US army except for a the patches. To the average civilian they are indistinguishable.

Its not that we can't afford to pay more soldiers... we just don;t have people volunteering to join.

There are 150,000 contractors in Iraq.

Thats truck drivers, cooks, carpenters, etc.

Not security contractors.

And 60% of the contractors are Iraqi citizens.

BlackWater has 831 employees in Iraq and is the largest security contractor in Iraq.

Why is Blackwater a war profiteer ?

Because the State department hired them to augument the State departments Diplomatic security service ?

in accordance to the day previous's Stars and Stripes (a newspaper obtainable in deployed places), Blackwater has approximately a million,000 contractors in Iraq, with over $800 million in contracts.

You are assuming that all the contractors work for Blackwater and that all the contractors work in an armed combat role.

Right now there are about 182,000 private contractors operating in Iraq. Most of these contractors work in support roles, driving trucks, providing meals, repair work, etc. Of the 182,000 only about 30,000 are in armed security roles. It is also interesting to note that of the 182,000 contractors, 118,000 are Iraqi.

The more believable figure would be 1,000 Blackwater members there, so trying to spread a rumor about a private army just wont wash.

150K U.S. soldiers
I'm guessing 1K Blackwater folks. (Really, do you think one company could afford 150K specially trained mercenaries, when the richest government can barely afford 150K regular troops?)

Shoud we institute the draft? No reason to do so. This entire War in Iraq is the equivalent of one minor battle in WW2.

Blackwater is a sweet little tax-dollar sucking company. Just another facet of the scam called the War in Iraq.

No but how about using Air Force airmen to patrol as we have inthe pastrather than jerking our young men out of college.

Sounds like the 'word in the street' is nonsense.

no draft, but this is just exactly the use of mercenaries which Pres. Clinton signed a bill years ago to ban the use of mercenaries which were being used in Africa to fight the rebels that killed thousands of innocent people. Why can we not allow these paid mercenaries back into Africa & help those innocent people?
