Chances are he's been watching you for awhile now and just haven't made any moves yet since he was still technically with his gf. Maybe he was trying to make things work out between the two of them and save a failing relationship. Now that it seems it is officially over he asked you out.

I did something like that with my past gf. She cheated on me once. I tried to find it in my heart to love her again and before I had a chance to do so I suspected she was cheating once again so I just broke it off. There was another girl who I kind of liked at the time but just never spoken to. So I just asked her out and we've been dating now for almost a year.

If you think the guy is alright then maybe you should give him a chance to still his story. Maybe then it won't be so odd. I've heard guys generally recover from past relationships pretty fast.

Nothing is odd about asking someone out. But you have to determine what would be his intention in asking you out. Of course with his girlfriend leaving, he would want company. But what kind of company, that is what would be questionable.

Leaving what?

Her job? Him?

Were they very serious?

He may have asked you out because he just doesn't want to be alone. No guy likes being alone, especially if they just got dumped.
