Well, when I first saw the question, I thought "this person has to be kidding" but here goes.

I am a taxi driver in the Cleveland Ohio area, so I hope my input will assist you in the answer that you seek.

Alcohol is a depressant. When consumed, it immediately begins to impair your ability to make judgements.

Think of working machinery or operating a motor vehicle. Many movements of different parts of your body are involved in the operation of a motor vehicle. When your sensorium becomes impaired, it affects your ability to operate the vehicle safely.

Not only are your visual judgements impaired, but your reactions with your feet and your hands are also slowed by the consumption of alcohol, not to mention your judgements or decisions that you make.

Say for example, one of my fares, who rides with me quite regularly, would risk driving a car home in an intoxicated state. First off you would have the visual impairment. Objects such as people and other cars will not appear to be closer to you than they acutually are, or you may dismiss them alltogether as not being relevant related to your level of intoxication, but they are right in front of you. You hit them with your car because your reaction time is slowed from the ingestion of alcohol. Everything is slower.

A good portion of the people that I pick up have had an OVI (operating vehicle intoxicated) judgement against them in the past. Sometimes, they have difficulty getting into the cab because of the level of impairment caused by the quantity of alcohol in their system. Some can't even remember if they paid me or not. Some get nasty, some are happy, some want to fight, others want to love, but they most likely wouldn't want to do any of the above mentioned if they had no alcohol. See what I mean by impairing judgement?

Drunk driving is bad because other people, and other people's property can be damaged and lives changed. People that haven't had a drink at all can have their lives changed by a drunk driver. If you drink, take a taxi.

The general term is "impaired driving." A driver with alcohol in his blood stream exercises bad judgement, impaired motor skills and slower reactions. All of these conditions can spell disaster when the operator is behind the wheel of a two ton vehicle.

They are not just a risk to themeselves, but to everyone elso on the road at the same time as them.

By the way, a driver who is suffering from lack of sleep exhibits the same kinds and the same degree of impairment as a drunk driver.

Alcohol affects your motor skills by blocking certain receptors- making your reactions much slower than normal. This can result in accidents while driving, because your brain cannot comprehend the situation at hand as quickly as it normally would. So if you are drunk, and someone stops quickly in front of you, there is quite a possibility that you will hit them.

Or, if you are totally intoxicated, its possible that your brain cannot even distinguish the lines on the road. I have seen drunk drivers who cannot even tell which side of the road they are on. That takes a lot of alcohol. Alcohol affects pretty much all your motor skills- vision, muscles, reflexes, even thoughts. Most people don't think straight while they are drunk because there is a drug in their body that alters their behaviour.

is this a serious question? alcohol impares judgement, slows reflexes, and causes you to become a serious danger to anyone else on the road. drunk driving can cause death and injury in others, disrupts and destroys lives, that the impared person can't ever make reparations for. (though it seems to be a growing trend in among celebrities.)

(personally, i am all for harsher punishment for DUI convictions, and monitoring those previously convicted of driving intoxicated. i think the yellow license plate for drunk drivers in ohio is a great idea. it makes sure others on the road are aware that the person behind the wheel of that car has been cited atleast once for DUI, and lets the people on the road around them to be extra careful. that kind of thing can save lives. but like i said, that's just something that's come up in ohio, and it's just my standing on the issue. i understand others will feel differently.)

good luck on your project.

Drunk driving is dangerous because it not only slows down your thinking but it also impairs your senses so that you are unaware of what is going on around you because you have no control and if you make a mistake while driving you could seriously hurt someone or better yet yourself

If you have ever lost a loved one to drunk driving, or seen a wreck caused by a drunk driver, you wouldn't have to ask.

The reason why drunk driving is bad is because your equalibrium is tainted and you loose focus and the alcohol in your brain won't allow you to pay much attention to the road. When that happens the driver could hurt himself and worse hurt others in his stupidity. "Driving Drunk Kill"...if your one that does it.....STOP!!!.
