What is the best way to get started?? I am thinking about having a service put them on cd. Then I could edit them later.

I just did this recently. I borrowed a friend's DVD recorder and plugged my VCR into it and recorded all my tapes onto DVDs. Then I loaded all the DVDs onto my computer and edited them. The only cost was for the blank DVD's.
