I prefer to believe in the idea of mental disorders that can be treated over the idea of demon possesion which sort of puts the blame of the problem on the person who suffers from it.

The cause of schizophrenia is not known to medical science. I believe the incidents of demon possession and indeed all the incidents of paranoia (the Bible is a book about paranoia) prophecy and miracles of seeing angels and other visions in the bible are cases of ancient schizophrenia. Christ was a schizophrenic vagabond suffering from a delusion of grandeur but had some wise insights into human nature. I don't believe there is a "devil, demons or angels" in the biblical sense (little mean monsters and flying people).

I know this will probably upset you but that is what I believe, good luck in understanding schizophrenia, good mental health, peace and Love!

It's two different explanations for the same thing.

I am religious, but I also work in mental health and I have never seen anybody who could turn his head all the way around or make things move without touching them.

I have seen thousands of people with mental illness improve with medication.

If a medieval rite like exorcism works for somebody when medication doesn't, that's wonderful and I wish them the best. But I have never actually seen that happen.

It's just problems with brain structure, chemicals etc, combined with possible mental damage etc... a lot of things make up mental illness, but I doubt some real little demon is part of it. People at the time of the birth of Christianity did not understand the brain particularly well; we still don't, but we do know a fair amount.
The mind is complex and, while it works exceptionally well for the most part, it can falter and fail.

There are studies that have shown the difference in brain chemical and brain usage in people with schizophrenia and those without.

When you can show me a brain scan of someone with a demon inside, I will believe the demon aspect.

Until then, I go with science and believe in mental health disorders.

hum, I've thought of that one before. But, with all the scientific crap, no way to really proof. I think demonised.
