I've been blocked by a couple people here and there, and okay, tat's their perrogative, but for myself, I don't like to block and haven't because I truly believe that everyone has worthwhile things to contribute. I like seeing ideas that differ from my own. Sometimes they make me sad, sometimes they make me mad, but they always make me think, and that's why I come here.
If you block people, why? Not specific people - that's between you and the Yamster - but what sort of criteria do you use? What makes you want to sheild yourself from someone's opinion?
Just curious. :-)

yelena, nothing specific. I was just wondering about people's opinions and use of the block feature.

epinoia, that's what the person who called others "Vile Temptress" called me. I'm really neither evil nor blind... not as cool as VT, but I'll take it. ;-)

I block, but not very much, only 3 people so far. It is not necessarily to sheild myself from other peoples opinions, that would require not being on the fourm at all.
Believe it or not, telling the truth gains you enemies on this forum.

I don't block anyone, and as far as I know I haven't been blocked. I agree that most people have something worth reading based on their life experiences.
However, I disagree that everyone has something worthwhile to contribute. Well, maybe they do, but some people just can't communicate it effectively, and that annoys me. If I blocked anyone, those would be the ones.

I put 3 kinds of people on block:
1.) Blatant trolls. Miserable haters who do nothing but insult people at every opportunity are starving for negative attention. I don't want to give them an opportunity to feed their addiction.
2.) Spammers. People who frequently paste huge passages of their "holy book" and from websites ... forcing the readers to scroll for minutes just to get to the next answer. How annoying!
3.) Liars and evaders. People who repeatedly won't give a straight answer, or evade the question with non-answers such as "You are lying! You don't know what you're talking about! Do research before you open your mouth! Research before you talk!" ... without evidence to the contrary, or if try to change the subject.
In all fairness, I try to use the "3 strikes" rule.

I blocked a few trolls, that's about it. I think I only have one active block right now. I'd have to check since it's been a while since I blocked any profile. The only other reason would be profiles that seem to be here only to insult other people (which, I guess, would make them trolls) or who make no sense at all with their questions.

I've never blocked anyone. Even the ones who occasionally stalk me on YA and post nasty things in the questions I ask. LOL
BTW: I've been blocked quite a bit too. I have no idea why. :(

I don't block anyone, the reason I'm here is to see opinions of different people, not reinforce my own. Seeing absurd remarks is 99% of the fun on here.

No, forbid(law) them not.
How else can the truth be known as truth,
unless it is fully challenged by all comers.

I prefer to dodge, and then hit them back with a counter attack.
Although when I do block, I follow Mr. Miyagi's advice and shout WAX ON or WAX OFF when I do it.
